About this deal

No information is available on the relationship of age to the effects of sodium chloride eye ointment or eye drops in the pediatric population. Safety and efficacy have not been established. Geriatric Talk with your doctor right away if you hurt your eye, develop an eye infection, or need to have eye surgery. You may need to change your medicine or stop using it. Side Effects of OcuFresh Ask your healthcare professional how you should dispose of any medicine you do not use. Precautions while using OcuFresh Examples: Viscotears® (Carbomer 980), Celluvisc® (Carmellose), Hypromellose, Sno Tears® (Polyvinyl Alcohol), Ilube® (Acetylcysteine), Lacrilube® ointment and Simple eye ointment

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep from freezing.PEG provides lubrication and acts as a surfactant by coating the eye and interacting with propylene glycol and other solutions that help to act as surfactants on the eye mucosa . This allows for long-lasting, soothing effects . Wipe the tip with a clean tissue and close the tube tightly. Keep the tube tightly closed when you are not using it. Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. Tell your healthcare professional if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicine. Interactions with Food/Tobacco/Alcohol Eye ointment: Pull down the lower lid and squeeze about 1/2 a centimetre (1/4 of an inch) of ointment into each eye. You need to take care not to touch the eye with the end of the tube. Lubricant eye drops/ointments are used to treat dry and irritated eyes and sometimes to help the eye to heal. They work in various ways – most simply wet or moisturise the eyes, others can remove excess tear mucus made by the eye. Sometimes, eyes with a dry surface can appear watery, which occurs when dryness is caused by the tear film not clinging to the eye.

PEG, depending on molecular weight, has various mechanisms of action , , , . For the purpose of Peg-400, the mechanism of action on the eye tissues will be the primary focus of discussion. The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine. Hypertonic sodium chloride eye ointment and eye drops are used to draw water out of a swollen cornea. The extra water in the cornea can cause your vision to be poor. You may also see halos or rings around point light sources. The cornea is the clear cover over the colored part of your eye. Please take care that the dropper doesn't touch your eye, your fingers, or any other surface. This could contaminate the gel left in the tube/bottle. Mild side effects: Eye drops and ointment can cause mild stinging, blurred sight or a funny taste in the mouth soon after putting them in.

Half Life

Adults—Apply small amount (1/4 inch) to the inside of the eyelids every 3 or 4 hours, or as directed by your doctor. Follow the instructions on the medicine label if you are using this medicine without a prescription.

Use one drop into the eye (or eyes) affected by dryness. You can do this three or four times each day unless you have been told otherwise by your doctor. Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention. To keep the medicine as germ-free as possible, do not touch the applicator tip to any surface (including the eye). Also, keep the container tightly closed. Serious damage to the eye and possible loss of vision may result from using contaminated eye drops. In the intact eye, the corneal surface is moistened primarily by the mucin that is produced in the conjunctiva. Mucin is adsorbed on the corneal surface and forms a hydrophilic surface. This creates a moisture barrier. In the typical dry eye, and particularly in case of mucin deficiency, the application of artificial tear fluid is highly recommended. Both its surface activity and its adsorptive capacity make hypromellose optimal for this use. Hypromellose has a physical-chemical action and leads to, in an aqueous solution, a reduced surface tension as well as an increased level of viscosity. Hypromellose adheres well to the cornea and conjunctiva and provides ample moisture. Irritation symptoms caused by blinking, which occur in the case of tear fluid deficiency, are therefore decreased and symptoms of epithelial desiccation are also alleviated .Certain medicines should not be used at or around the time of eating food or eating certain types of food since interactions may occur. Using alcohol or tobacco with certain medicines may also cause interactions to occur. Discuss with your healthcare professional the use of your medicine with food, alcohol, or tobacco. Proper use of OcuFresh In deciding to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor will make. For this medicine, the following should be considered: Allergies If you forget to use the gel at the correct time, do not worry, just use it when you remember. Do not 'double up' the number of drops you use to make up for forgetting to use it. Your eye doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to use and how often. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to. This medicine is not for long-term use. Eye drops: You only need to place one drop in each eye. If you need to give more than one type of eye drop, leave at least five minutes between applying each type of medicine.

The surface active properties of the vehicles found in artificial tears solutions act to stabilize the tear film and increase tear viscosity to prevent delay tear evaporation and delay tear drainage . Occasionally, the drops can cause an allergic reaction with redness, swelling and irritation of the eye or eyelids. While applying the medicine, your eyes will probably sting or burn for a short time. This is to be expected. No information is available on the relationship of age to the effects of sodium chloride eye ointment or eye drops in geriatric patients. Interactions with Medicines PEG-400 is considered a lacrimomimetic, or a synthetic ocular lubricant that improves one or more components of the lacrimal film by augmenting the tear volume and stability and by protecting the eye surface against desiccation . Hydroxypropyl-guar (HPG) is used along with polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG) and propylene glycol (PG) as a gelling agent that conforms to abnormalities of the tear film and existing irregularities on the ocular surface .

If your child experiences symptoms that you think might be due to the drops, speak to your pharmacist or doctor.
