About this deal

This test will tell you if the shape of the internal heel cup matches your heel to ensure it holds you securely, especially when ascending steep ground. We are trying to eliminate the dreaded heel blister. I found them a little hot in the summer but only rarely where they uncomfortable. For me, they provide the perfect balance between protection and breathability, and I certainly wouldn’t want a boot with less protection just for the sake of cooler feet – next time I may get the version without Gore-Tex as I suspect this reduces breathability of the boot. La Sportiva's TX4 GTX are a classic approach shoe made with a solid sole, leather outer and Gore-Tex lining. They feature everything you want in an approach shoe with extended rubber bumpers around the toes, along the sides and up the heels. A strong, effective lacing system allows you to get the most comfortable fit and the large pull loop on the heel makes getting them on much easier too. The Gore-Tex lining helps keep out the wet on the walk in but obviously with a shoe that is this low cut water can (and does) get over the tops easily. Leather shoe with Gore-Tex Extended Comfort designed for technical approach routes and via ferrata, part of the Traverse X approach series: ideal for prolonged use by mountain guides and all those who work in the mountains.

The soles of the TX4 are made by Vibram, the leading manufacturer of soles for climbers, hikers and walkers. The slightly large fit and wide toe box—built for comfort and stability—may be too roomy for those with low-volume or narrow feet. TX4 is a sturdy “built to last” boot, thanks to the STB Control System™ that provides structure and torsion stability. The hard wearing leather uppers have an essential design and are high abrasion resistance thanks to the PU TechLite all-around rand: The Vibram MegaGrip sole with climbing zone at the toe and Impact Brake System at the rear are designed for climbing routes and return trails on technical terrain. The lacing system derives from the Mythos climbing shoe and regulates tension and internal volume in one easy move. Traverse X the ultimate expression of moving in the mountains in comfort, speed and safety. and adaptability in heel hooks when bouldering. If you’ve tried on any shoe in the TX lineup, you know the drill: both the sizing and fit of these shoes are unique. For starters, most people find that they run large, so if you’re on the fence, we recommend sizing down a half size from your normal number. I have the TX2, TX3, and TX4, and wear a size 8 in all three instead of my usual 8.5. Second, both the TX3 and TX4 have a wide forefoot designed to increase both comfort and stability, which is uncommon from La Sportiva. As someone who has a particularly wide foot, I really love the fit of these shoes. However, if you have a narrow or low-volume foot, you’ll likely find the TX4 to be far too roomy. In the end, if this is your first pair of shoes from the TX lineup, we recommend trying on before you buy, or at least purchasing from an online marketplace with a lenient return and exchange policy. Plenty of technology, a very lightweight feel and an overall great performance. We like this boot. Tester’s Verdict

A Hybrid Design

NOTE: The above table is only a guide. Manufactures don’t like tomake it easy as every single oneof them strays from the measurements above.

The "TX" in the TX4's stands for Traverse X; La Sportiva's range ideally suited towards prolonged use in the mountains and technical climbing routes but also with a bit of everyday use thrown in. This particular colourway (Carbon Flame) is also exclusive to Trekitt; you won't find this colour anywhere else! The TX4's are perfect all-rounder for just about everything outdoor-related, with every detail, studied to guarantee grip, comfort and protection in a wide range of conditions.

Compared to the mesh upper of the TX3 or canvas upper of the Evolv Cruzer Psyche, the TX4’s leather boosts the shoe’s climbing ability significantly by adding protection, rigidity, and a close fit. Comparatively, the leather Five Ten Guide Tennie offers a slightly tighter fit and more streamlined toe box for technical precision, but these climbing-specific features detract from comfort and protection on the trail. Leather can wet out and grow heavy and misshapen with extended exposure to rain or snow. You can apply waterproofing products, but keep in mind that they will impact breathability. The TX4 Mid is one of the most versatile, all-rounded pieces of footwear available; whether you're climbing, scrambling, trekking or simply walking around town, they're exceptionally comfortable, well made and perfect for almost every outdoor pursuit. High abrasion resistance and reduced weights thanks to the PU TechLite rand and rubber toe for extra protection, Vibram MegaGrip sole with Impact Brake System at the rear, Trail Bite Heel enhances the downhill grip. Climbing zone at the toe for climbing routes and return trails.
