This was more or less like a groundbreaking technology at that point of time but has become an aquarium standard ever since. The Fluval 306 can be used for both fresh and saltwater aquariums. It’s square shaped container is able to hold up to 50% more water than containers of a similar size that are round in shape. It makes great us of it’s sound dampening design, providing filtration without the significant ambient noise generated by other filtration systems on the market. The 306 also comes with a dual level foam screen as well as an intake strainer. Know that you’ll be getting great quality and durability for the price, making this more of a deal than an issue, though those on a budget may need to work up the nerve. A number of our testers on the Fluval 306 External Filter noted how quiet it is. It does make some noise while priming, but after you have that all setup, you won’t hear a peep from the device. Users have also noted how powerful this device is. It can filter through 260 gallons of water per hour. That is quite a lot! Phosphates naturally occur as bi-products of waste in the tank, and this is exactly what this filter model from Fluval seeks to remove.

Fluval’s patented Aqua-Stop valve makes it all the easier to connect and disconnect hoses to and within the 306 External Filter. The mechanical stage includes a vertical twin foam pre-filter to ensure the water flows as easily as possible. If you think it’s too big or it’s too much for the aquarium you have, there are a number of other options on the market.

Users also described it as not feeling wobbly – a common problem in filters – and when you are paying over a hundred dollars, that’s definitely a welcomed perk. However, unlike most of their competitors, Fluval was open to change and quite flexible about both their technology as well as filter/tank designing style. The Rolf C. Hagen Group of Companies owns the Fluval brand. – a pet supplies company that was founded in 1955. While the Hagen group sells a range of pet supplies, Fluval focuses on the aquarium. They sell a range of products – from the media in filters all the way up to the aquariums themselves. Fluval are, however, best know for their filters – particularly their 206 / 306 / 406 range, of which the middle range Fluval 306 is reviewed below. Fluval 306 Canister Filter Description There is no doubt that Fluval filters are among the best (if not these best) available on the market today. The Fluval 206, has more than enough power to keep a 300 liter fish tank clean and clear, And it is incredibly efficient at doing so. One of Fluval’s best-selling products, the Fluval FX4 unit, caught our attention with its smart pumping feature. However, while testing, we were impressed with a lot more that it offers at such a reasonable price tag! Why Buy This Product? After reviewing all the positives and the negatives, we do recommend the Fluval 306 External Filter. This filter is also incredibly versatile. It works for both fresh and saltwater tanks, can work through a lot of water in a little bit of time, has large media baskets, and even includes a hydraulic motor that ensures you won’t have to perform maintenance as often. To begin with, we’re impressed with the astounding capacity of the FX6, pumping out 925 gallons of water every hour. What further enhances its performance is the advanced microchip technology-enabled smart pump that constantly monitors and optimizes the productivity of the unit.
