About this deal

The quartet soon discover that they have Ava’s husband on their heels, followed by local police, and the government officials… Can they help Sandy? As they are coming to terms with this bizarre situation, they hear a huge cephalopod has been found on Yellowcraig Beach. All three are drawn to it, as they are to each other. Lennox calls the creature "Sandy", but it's not a single entity, more part of a hive mind - when he touches Sandy, he finds out they are telepathic. They want to reconnect, they tell Lennox - with themselves. Reflecting on how the movement has been marketed, wrapped and monetised, the spin-off books and decluttering series, he says: "I look in the bookshop at Marie Kondo's book and all the others, and I wonder, 'maybe I could write a book on how not to have anything?'" He concludes: "But in the end, I think 'wouldn't that be one book too many?'" In The Secrets Between Us we find Bhima in a very different set of circumstances than the previous novel. She is finding her way after being unceremoniously discharged from Sera's household. Bhima is not one to hang her head resignedly, and give up, though. She is one of the strongest women I've encountered, quietly demanding respect. In this sequel, we are introduced to Parvati, whom we only caught a glimpse of in The Space Between Us. She is as unique as a pink elephant. The friendship that blooms between Bhima and Parvati made my heart a flutter.

In her time, she has known the evil that men do. But nothing matches with the evil of the Gods, who, having created humanity, now spend their days teasing and testing it.” While The Secrets Between Us is a sequel to The Space Between Us, it is definitely ok to read this one without having read the former. But I would suggest that you seek out a summary of the events in the earlier novel, maybe here or here. Having said that, I also have to post this. That this is so sad and filled with tragedy that it can hardly be held as an "enjoyable" read. I stopped 1/2 way through for some days while reading much lighter and more joyful.I absolutely LOVED this book (I had to write it in capitals). I felt the storyline was fresh and exciting. Our cephalopod, Sandy, is no different. They have found themselves homeless – forced from their home and looking for a safe place to live without fear. They are refugees and first we need to understand them, learn how to communicate with them and finally, find a way to live side by side with them in harmony.

All see a flash of light in the sky and collapse where they are; all three wake up in the same hospital ward. Overnight, a whopping 16 people have had strokes, all of them were outdoors at the time. But while one of the bullies lies in the corner of the ward, alive but barely able to move, Lennox, Ava and Heather have recovered completely.Quite aside from the highly imaginative sci-fi element, the threat posed by both the authorities and Ava’s abusive husband means there’s almost constant tension and a lot at stake. I fell in love with Sandy – such a gentle giant and I adored how they talked. I found conversations between Sandy and Lennox quite amusing and funny. There were some serious themes in this book. Some of the most prevalent themes included poverty, sexual objectification, and inequity between the caste system. During that night, a creature resembling an octopus (but not exactly an octopus as it possesses five tentacles instead of eight) washes up on the beach in East Lothian. I loved the new characters. I got choked in all the right places. I hurt for the sad times and burst with joy at the happy outcomes. After the almost unremitting sadness and poverty of The Spaces, The Secrets Between Us is all about the good that can come out of the bad and it's such a fabulous book that I wanted to read it every spare moment I had, but I also feared coming to the end and knowing there was no more.
