About this deal

Would love to see a m43 prime lens between 7 and 9mm and f.28 or faster for a reasonable price. MF is fine with me especially if it brings cots down(I already own the excellent 7.5mm fisheye) - but the only real advantage of this Samyang 12mm is the f2.0 aperture. I am sure the Panasonic 12-32 is near enough as good at 12mm and offers autofocus too plus it costs slightly less. Note that the Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 can also be found listed as the Samyang 12mm f/2.0. There is no difference with these two lenses as they are exactly the same and differ in name only. ** Lab-test results for ultra-wide-angle lenses never tell the whole story, as the physical size of the test charts requires that images are shot from very close range. In our real-world tests, we found sharpness to be excellent in the central region of the frame even when shooting wide-open at f/2, and edge/corner-sharpness to be generally very good, rising to highly impressive levels at apertures between f/2.8 and f/8. It has new modern designs such as matt finishing and a hidden red ring. An ergonomically designed grip with a micro pattern rubber ring maximizes the usability. A weather-sealing feature and a rear protective glass prevent dust, light rain, and snow from penetrating. Sell the kit you’re not using to MPB. Trade in for the kit you need to create. It’s a mostly plastic design with a metal mount. It comes with a nice compact case that will certainly keep it protected as well. I’ve also been using the Sony 16mm prime lately. It’s super soft and not good for high quality prints, but very serviceable for ‘web use only’ photos on my hiking trip reports. While shooting outside, I haven’t had too much of an issue with flares. The Rokinon 12mm comes with a lens hood that I don’t use due to the constraints of my hiking camera bag. You can see what the flares look like in the image below. They are very easy to remove in post processing. Marshall Canyon BokehFor still images, keeping a distance equal to the diagonal length of the full image surface is recommended. The full frame sensor of a digital camera is 36 x 24mm and the diagonal length is 43.26mm so any distance close to this number is nearer to the ideal than the currently accepted industry standard of 50mm. Typically I don’t even consider buying manual focus lenses anymore. There are so many good options that come with autofocus at very affordable prices that it’s not worth sacrificing the utility of autofocus. For me this lens is more interesting on APS-C like Sony or Fuji as it gives an ultra wide fov (18mm equivalent in ff/35mm film terms) whereas the 24mm fov is a more common wide angle and a few m43 zoom lenses offer this already. Of course, this remains the case in the Samyang AF 12mm F2 E. But thanks to the autofocus, you can now also use this lens very well for fast documentary photography and video. With this new lens and the arrival of the new Tamron 11-20mm F2.8 Di III-A RxD, Sony APS-C users can once again make a real wide-angle choice. The Tamron is one stop brighter than Sony’s own 10-18mm F4, but about twice as expensive than the Samyang AF 12mm F2 E. In the extreme wide angle position, it has hardly less wide angle than the Tamron, is smaller and lighter and above all a stop brighter, although of course it does not have the flexibility of the zoom. BUILD Samyang AF 12mm F2 E Vignetting is the light falloff, or dark corners, found in an image. The vignetting on the Rokinon 12mm is strongest at f/2.0, but falls off considerable as I approach f/8. You can look at the corners at some of the photos in this review to see the vignetting on the 12mm. Most of the time when I’m shooting at f/2.0 I’m composing a shot in low light so the dark corners are hardly noticeable. This is another exposure issue that is very easy to correct for in post processing. Distortion

havanna60 : Ditto, rarely i read on DPR --i.e., conservative niche going down the (audio-like)-phile path into exotic tools with soon-to-come stratospheric pricing :-) -- words that i can resonate with..." A5100 is still my favorite camera with PZ1650, because of its size and the brute force APSC sensor it has.... Sigma fp and Sony A7C are excellent steps to replace small APSC cameras for the ones who favor small size. Still, no camera can come even close to the small size/performance of A5100. As for 1"/m43 sensor cameras with computational photography, I think it is a dead end, these are replaced with smartphones with multiple lenses and distance sensors. " Sun stars are visible around f/11 and get better at f/16. The seven-bladed aperture on this lens makes much nicer sun stars than the previous manual focus version. When hiking outdoors, I still prefer to use my Sony 10-18mm, as I almost never feel limited by it’s range of f/4. Still, the Rokinon 12mm has proven to be a very serviceable hiking lens, too. I’ve used the Rokinon on a number of hiking outings and the results are on par with my Sony 10-18mm. Shade And Sunlight San Gabriels View From Mt. Wilson Sierra Madre With the improved coatings and quality on this lens, almost all the complaints about chromatic aberration and coma have been solved when comparing it to the older manual focus design. A thin rubber seal does give this lens some weather/dust sealing which is a nice upgrade from other inexpensive APS-C lenses I’ve used.
