We had very few problems achieving a spectacular picture quality from the TCL C835, whether streaming 4K HDR from its own Google apps or playing via HDMI from an AppleTV 4K or UHD Blu-ray player. A quite high 6 or 7 for both settings was a compromise across material, with the Clear LED Motion toggle also activated, as this seemed to minimize any pasty video effect and deliver the most accurate color palette. This might not be a huge issue for you, but if you have a large family and often have get togethers to have movie night or watch sports, then a wide view angle is must. There’s support for Dolby Atmos too, though there’s only so much a TV without up-firing speakers can do to reproduce this surround-sound format. The panel uniformity is patchy and on a 5% slide there are lighter corners and a darker centre, something we expect to see thanks to the LCD filter and the edge-lit approach.
The 2022 model numbers use the number ‘3’ instead of ‘4’, with the C835K, C735K and C635K joined by the C935K, which hasn’t received a 2023 update. There’s support for 4K gaming at 120Hz, with the TV itself supporting up to 144Hz, plus VRR and ALLM support too.
