McCullers puts a female character that balances out all the masculinity of the towns in which her novels are set. Even though this is only my second McCullers book I already consider myself a fan; I just love her style of writing and the compassion she has for her characters. The townspeople won't tolerate a black person in a white community, so they kill the boy in a bombing.
