Liber Bubonicus– The bearer gains the ability to use the Plague Prayers ability from the Plague Priest Warscroll, if the bearer is already a Plague Priest then it can instead use the Plague Prayers ability twice instead of only once in each hero phase. This would allow a Priest on Plague Furnace to chant one of its own prayers then also 2 plague prayers from the on-footwarscroll, or allow a Verminlord Corruptor to chant a prayer, any way you take it it’s pretty useful and a solid take. Most units are paper – With very few exceptions, the army is very fragile and has a penchant for hurting itself into the mix. If your alpha doesn’t land, you can be losing huge amounts of your army in return. Buying 4 of this box isn’t out of the question. This is in the top 2 of repeatable boxes to buy and it ain’t 2. If you run the Bray-Shaman as your General and build the Ungors as regular Ungors, you’ll get another legal list from this box as he will turn your Bestigors into Battleline giving you the required Hero and 2 Battleline again. Ungor Raiders however are one of the few ranged units available to Chaos and certainly to Beasts of Chaos in particular so if you want to do anything in the shooting phase you might want to build them as Raiders. The second of the 2 Cities of Sigmar boxes that came out with the Battletome, this time its the chance of the old plastic Dwarves to take the turn in the spotlight. Malevolent – Re-roll wound rolls of 1 with melee weapons. You would think the Assassins would be the ones that could make use of this trait, but there are just better choices. C

Contents: 1 Herald of Nurgle / Poxbringer, 10 x Plaguebearers (Battleline), 3 x Nurglings, and 3 x Plague Drones Ridden with Poxes – Roll a dice at the end of the combat phase, on a 4+ then every enemy unit within 3” takes d3 mortal wounds. Unusual in that it’s one dice roll to trigger on everything. Looks to be of marginal utility but you really can start to build a Plague Furnace (or Corruptor) that pumps out a steady stream of chip mortal wounds, and we’ve seen the value in that from the Nurgle and Ogor books. Probably still not as good as getting those great plagues out. Contents: 1 Auric Runefather/Runemaster/Runeson on Magmadroth (Hero, Behemoth), 1 Auric Runesmiter, and 10 x Vulkite Berzerkers (Batteline) A good example of a Maggotkin army, and would mix brilliantly with the Daemons of Nurgle box for a nice flavourful Nurgle list. If you build one of the Pusgoyle Blightlords you’l end up with a spare). If you build them as the Pusygoyle Blighttlords and make the Lord of Blights your general you’ll have a game legal 500pts army out of the box as they become Batteline. Blistrevous, the Living Cyst– what a wonderful name. The bearer adds 2” onto its move characteristic as well as re-rolling all hit rolls with all weapons that this character is armed with. Could be useful on a Verminlord Corruptor or Plague Furnace, maybe. However if there are any other Pestilens Heroes within 13” at the beginning of the Hero phase then this artefact is transferred to them instead, even ones that already have a relic so you’ll need to be more careful with placement so this doesn’t ping over to a Plague Priest who doesn’t really want or need it. C+ Besides the wonky unit sizes, the biggest downfall of this box are the Saurus Knights, who are a wet dinofart of a unit. However, since you’re virtually getting them for free they can make a nice display piece of you’re so inclined. Skaven sit firmly in Age of Sigmar’s ever-growing fat middle, with a winrate hovering in the high 40s. They’re an army that can be very reliant on specific combos going off and can be prone to rapid collapse if it starts going wrong, which will lead to game losses when they can at other times feel oppressive and powerful. Allegiance Abilities Battle Traits

A great value box and currently the only way to get the Bloodsecrator, Bloodstoker and Khorgorath. The contents of this box where the Khorne half of the original Age of Sigmar starter set and many people do/did (help me out here players) consider the Bloodstoker an autoinclude in Khorne armies.

The Gnawshard– One of the bearer’s melee weapons gains this ability: if the weapon wounds a model that is not killed then at the end of each battle round that model suffers a mortal wound. Not going to get much mileage out of this unless you’re able to hit combat turn 2 or sooner. C Contents: 1 Terrorgheist (Behemoth, Batteline in Gristlegore) / Ghoul King on Terrorgheist (Leader, Behemoth) / Zombie Dragon (Behemoth, Battleline in Gristlegore) / Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon (Leader, Behemoth), 3 x Crypt Horrors (Battleline in Blisterskin)/ Crypt Flayers (Battleline in Hollowmourne) / Vargheists (Battleline in Soulblight) and 10 x Crypt Ghouls. Unrivalled Killer– Re-roll hit rolls against the enemy Hero that was chosen as part of the Eshin clan trait. Useful against larger enemy heroes on a Verminlord to get a full set of re-rolls to hit and to wound. BThe Neverplague – AKA the turn one great plague. You can reroll all chanting rolls for all Pestilens priests for the rest of the game. Yes, thank you. Low Bravery. Skaven are not the bravest warriors in the Mortal Realms and you will not forget that when you’re playing them. A couple of boxes of these serve a great core to a Cities of Sigmar force, and brave converters can take the extra Warden King and convert it into a Runelord for some anti caster potency and buff potential.

Here are the named Skaven characters with models you can get your hands on when building your own fledgling ratling empire: The current win percentage for the faction is around 44-45%, making the army semi-competitive, but not reliably so. Cheap, board-filling units. Few armies in Age of Sigmar can put more models on the board than Skaven. Verminus Valour – Turns every skaven unit within 3” into a bodyguard. Very similar to the Skilled Manipulators battle trait, but doesn’t require the unit to have 3 or more models.You won’t see this as much as the Deceiver simply because dreaded skitterleap is so good, but if you’re running the right kind of army for it this will be the hardest hitting verminlord, and isn’t just a solo operator. Clawlord Beyond this, Stormfeinds have enough melee power to take care of themselves if charged by anything but the biggest melee threats (and that’s after they get a horrific unleash hell) and a big chunk of wounds that makes them unusually difficult to remove for a Skaven unit. If you’re running a unit of 6, you will have to take 20 damage to remove the first gun from the unit. Remember, these are what the entire Verminus allegiance ability is built around, so hopefully they’re good. Overseer of Destruction – This lets you save your weapons teams from being removed if the unit they are hidden in is destroyed. As with many of these Skaven command traits this is very niche, but if you’ve invested a lot of points in hidden weapons teams then this is useful. Forge World nonsense, the Warpgnaw is a Verminlord that hasn’t been properly updated for the new tome. It’s got the previous edition’s 12 wounds and the previous edition’s approach to Verminlord points.
