About this deal

This is a really impressive debut novel written by a British author who succeeded in creating a vivid small-town-America setting. I will definitely be following Mr Whitaker to find out what he will come up with next. I'm also hoping there'll be an audiobook in the future so I can revisit this and hear these characters. Our Care team offers residential care for those who need help with daily tasks, and nursing care for people who have complex medical needs. At Tall Oaks Care Home, we provide both residential dementia care and 24-hour nursing dementia care for residents who require it. We also offer respite care to give family and friends a well-earned break. White Oak Tree ( Q. alba): Not to be confused with the group of oaks called white oaks, the white oak tree grows very slowly. After 10 to 12 years, the tree will stand only 10 to 15 feet tall (3-5 m.), but it will eventually reach a height of 50 to 100 feet (15-30 m.). You shouldn’t plant it near sidewalks or patios because the trunk flairs at the base. It doesn’t like to be disturbed, so plant it in a permanent location as a very young sapling, and prune it in the winter while it is dormant. Oak forests support more life forms than any other native forest. They are host to hundreds of insect species, supplying many birds with an important food source. In autumn, mammals such as squirrels, badgers and deer feed on acorns.

Infection prevention and control Our infection prevention and control inspections look at how well people using a service are kept safe from the spread of infections.A large, deciduous tree growing up to 20–40m tall. Also known as common oak, this species grows and matures to form a broad and spreading crown with sturdy branches beneath. There are dozens of oak tree varieties in North America. The varieties are divided into two main categories: red oaks and white oaks. Red Oak Trees

I don't even know what I would compare this to, it is too off beat. It is its own, and being a debut, I think this author wouldn't be looking for comparisons. I imagine he is comfortable with this being what it is. The child abduction starts off the mystery element of this novel and the reader gains a deep insight into its effect on this small community, how it affects the mother and the policeman obsessed with the case. But this is far more than another missing child procedural, as the author allows us to glimpse into the obscure lives and relationships of some other townsfolk, too. Several fascinating plot strands with plenty of drama and secrets. The characters were truly memorable. Reds have leaves with pointed lobes tipped with tiny bristles. Their acorns take two years to mature and sprout the spring after they drop to the ground. Common red oaks include:One segment was horror; and I mean absolutely terrifying. A 3 year old is abducted from his room by a person in a clown mask. The oak was sacred to many gods, including Zeus, Jupiter and the Celtic Dagda. Each of these gods ruled over thunder and lightning, and oak trees are often hit by lightning as they are the tallest living feature in the landscape.

Oaks produce one of the hardest and most durable timbers on the planet. However, it takes up to 150 years before an oak is ready to use in construction. It has been a prized hardwood timber for thousands of years and is still used for flooring, wine barrels and firewood. I read and loved We Begin at the End last year so I was dying to get my hands on Whitakers debut and it did not disappoint. I also have to say how impressed I am that a British author can write American culture so well. I would have thought Mr. Whitaker was born and raised here if I didn't know any differently and I don't know any authors that have ever done this more successfully than Whitaker has. This debut novel is full of fascinating characters and considering the subject matter there is a hefty dose of humour. Every emotion is felt reading this book, there are laugh out loud moments as well as tearful ones. I loved reading about the wanna be gangsters Manny and Abe, some of dialogue between them had me in stitches it was so well written. There are lots of secrets and lots of suspects throughout the novel resulting in a great read. When three-year-old Harry goes missing, the whole of America turns its attention to one small town. Everyone is eager to help. Everyone is a suspect. Druids practised rituals in oak groves and cherished the mistletoe that grows in oak-tree branches. It’s also linked with royalty: ancient kings and Roman Emperors wore crowns of oak leaves. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the official regulator for the care sector. They inspect care homes and care services to make sure they are safe, caring, effective, responsive and well-led.
