But the mother duck made them all wait, for she promised herself that she would love all her children the same. Accidentally mixed with a duck's eggs, he (it is only now that I found out that the ugly duckling is male) is hatched and grows up with ducks. Although he had a beautiful singing voice and a passion for ballet and the theatre, all his life he was rejected and teased by other children. He didn't have the confidence to let their compliments go to his head, but truly appreciated the words.A story is an instrument that indulges the reader into a world of fantasy thereby granting insight into the roots of the real problems. He used to boast that he was secretly a prince, and although this only led to further mockery, there is a real possibility that he was in fact the illegitimate son of Prince Christian Frederik, later to be King Christian VIII of Denmark. He ran away, and was mistreated and talked about not because of anything that he could prevent, but just because he was ugly. Yes, it's how things work in real life, people pick and laugh about you if you look differently, but not everyone and not always.I did feel like that because I had a very low self esteem but after years went by, I focused more on my schooling career. He later said his schooldays were the darkest of his entire life, and we can speculate (though it is only speculation) that Andersen’s own experiences as a boy fed into ‘The Ugly Duckling’.
