About this deal

While the Nerf Laser Ops Pro AlphaPoint doesn’t fire foam darts, it’s clearly a Nerf gun in every other way. Bright orange accents and a chunky plastic finish will feel familiar. CAUTION: Clear the area of any obstructions before each use. Always know your surroundings during use. Not for use in complete darkness. Scottish Highlands Postcodes (IV, HS, KA27-28, KW, PA20-49, PA60-78, PH17-26, PH30-n 44, PH49-50, ZE ) 48 Hour Dispatch There are two products in the Laser Ops Pro series so far: the AlphaPoint Blasters and the DeltaBurst blasters. Each is essentially an IR transmitter and receiver in a gun-shaped plastic shell that is aesthetically similar to traditional Nerf weaponry, right down to the purple, orange, and grey color scheme.

Out of the box, you can put batteries in the blasters, turn them on, and start shooting. When you’re hit the gun makes a noise and a red light in the receiver dome blinks. It’s a pretty fun, traditional game of laser tag, but the real killer feature of the Laser Ops Pro line is its Bluetooth capability. Playing while connected to a smartphone allows you to engage in more complex types of gameplay. Channel Islands, including Jersey and Guernsey (Sark, Alderney and Herm are an additional 1 days delivery from Guernsey) 48 Hour Dispatch Service The Nerf Laser Ops Pro brand carries two types of gun. There’s the DeltaBurst two-handed rifle, and the AlphaPoint blaster on review here. Dart-based Nerf blasters might be more or less accurate for various physics-based reasons including firing mechanisms, spring weights, or physical magazines that hold more or less ammo. Every Laser Ops Pro blaster starts out intrinsically perfect. They are all a few lines of code away from perfect accuracy, unlimited ammo, and a maximum fire rate of infinity. Any differences between them are design decisions to balance perfection down. Brave New Niche Connected play with friends is even more fun. The same rubber holster that fits on the solo attachment also wraps tightly around your wrist, turning your phone into an overgrown smartwatch that displays your current ammo and health, time remaining, and the locations of the other players using their phones’ GPS signals.

This means Laser Ops Pro blasters are also "smart," meaning they know when they've been hit. This means you can play in two ways. For simple out-of-the-box play, just grab a few blasters and start blasting. Every time your blaster gets hit, your health goes down. Once it's depleted, you can't shoot anymore until you've had some time to "heal."

But the competitive angle Laser Ops Pro takes—plus the fact that every digital Nerf blaster is actually a perfectly accurate, full-auto sniper rifle with a bottomless clip—means there's probably no room for Nerf's zany side. I'm talking about the fun but sub-optimal shotguns and giant barrel drums and whatever the hell this thing is. DIY mods are similarly squeezed out by the requirement to pair with Nerf's app and the fact that near perfect performance is pretty effortlessly achievable with little to no compromise. In the app you can set up a free-for-all or team game with up to four total players that lasts three, five, 10, or 15 minutes. You can also decide whether or not to allow Power-Ups that do things like increase the damage your weapon does, let you fire at teammates to increase their health, or cause damage to all of your opponents by hitting just one of them. You can choose which Power-Up to arm your blaster with from the app once your round commences. There have always been Nerf blasters designed for fun and Nerf blasters designed for more serious war games, and with their near effortless facilitation of the latter, these new laser guns could be great for folks who are interested in that and that alone. So long as Nerf's top down balancing can manage to keep things fair and competitive. Out of the box, you can get going immediately with the Nerf Laser Ops Pro AlphaPoint. Just power on the gun and the light on top will turn purple. A squeeze of the trigger turns the gun on into free-for-all mode, where anyone can shoot anyone. It’s immediate fun without any hassle. Targeting and response is super-accurate and range is brilliant: I managed 25 metres indoors; outside I hit the extremity of the garden at around 40 metres and was still registering hits.

Pay in 3 interest-free instalments

All of this comes with an enormous upside, of course. Nerf's Laser Ops Pro blasters should make it virtually effortless for folks to take part in the most ambitious, epic kinds of play Nerf blasters facilitate with none of the organizing headaches of finding scorekeepers or referees or arguing about whether or not that dart actually hit you, to say nothing of retrieving all the ammo afterward. Playing with a smartphone allows you to earn upgrades (faster reload times, more health and more damage) and power-ups, including Health Allies (shoot your team to heal them) and Massive Blast (cause damage to all opponents with your next shot). It adds an extra element to games, which is welcome when you have larger teams. You get twice the number of shots, with the power meter going through the same range of colours. When you’re out, a tap of the button recharges you, ready for the next round. The traditional, mechanical nature of Nerf inspired tinkering. Enthusiasts, not as concerned with safety or lawsuits as Hasbro, modded their quirky-but-impractical blasters into better or more maniacal foam-flinging machines. With laser tag integrated, each gun has a receiver up top, so you don’t need to wear any additional equipment. When you take a hit, the receiver lights up red to you let you know.

Guns run on four AA batteries, which slot into a screw-in compartment at the front. Battery life should be around 10 hours, which is generous. Mine gun was still going strong after a couple of weeks.
