About this deal

Despite the tempestuous nature of the British weather, London is a wonderful place to stroll through, whether you’ve got a destination in mind or are just out for an aimless meander. So breathe some fresh(ish) air into your lungs, and take in the beautiful scenery surrounding you wherever you go. There are a whole host of routes you can take, but we’d recommend the Parkland Walk – which follows an old railway line through graffiti-covered tunnels and secluded wooded groves – and ‘The Line’ – London’s first dedicated modern and contemporary art walk. You’ll discover nine different artworks on this one, including pieces by Damien Hirst and Anthony Gormley. 17. See the roller skaters do their thing in Hyde Park Lords and ladies! We’re of magnificent buildings here in London it has to be said. In fact, in a city as old as ours, you won’t go far before you stumble upon some historic gem, age-old boozer or towering skyscraper which practically defies feats of engineering. But when it comes to Royal Palaces ? Now that’s where we really come into our own.

I believe I spotted this in a tiny bookshop in Camden Market well over a year ago, assuming I’d use it as a guide to little day trips. Then, you know, 2020 happened. The sister of Elephant & Castle’s Mercato Metropolitano opened in the beautiful setting of a converted church that makes quiet the setting for lunch. That said the venue still doesn’t garner as much attention as the E&C location does. You don’t have to travel all the way to Paris to be entertained by cabaret and burlesque. From breathtaking dance shows to Vegas-style glamour and plenty of bare skin, there’s loads here to keep you well and truly entertained, so have a gander at this list and see where takes your fancy! 40. Part of the Unusual Guide series, this book provides information on hidden away or unusual gems spread across London. This is not a typical guidebook - it doesn’t feature hotels or restaurants or really even any pubs. It’s just about places and spaces that one should know about in London.

That’s not where the story ends though. The name supposedly comes from a tree that Elizabeth I rested under as she took refuge here on a journey through the Great North Wood that used to cover most of South London. Now that we’ve extolled the virtues of St Dunstan in the East as some of the best hidden architecture in London, we guess we’d better tell you what it is. Bonus points if you see the tree stump around which Queen Elizabeth I is said to have danced when it formed a part of the garden of one of her favourite subjects, Christopher Hatton. OrioleGreenwich ain’t exactly short of beautiful buildings it has to be said, though the Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College is arguably the jewel in the borough’s crown. Billed as the ‘Sistine Chapel of England’, this extraordinary hall is an artistic masterpiece which is an ode to Baroque design. Designed in the early 18th century by Sir James Thornhill, it features 40,000 square feet of walls and ceilings – all of which are covered in striking images depicting 200 figures including kings, queens and mythological creatures too. Eltham Palace was bought in 1931 by the wealthy Stephen Courtauld who started a period of transformation and extension that led to some of the best-preserved Art Deco interiors you can find today. At their apex you’ll discover sweeping views into central London, while the terraced levels contain a series of treasures including a Sound Garden and an Animal Walk filled with living natural history specimens. Garden at 120 Other things of note include the Royal Opera House and the London Transport Museum – the world’s leading museum of urban transport. Alternatively, you could just spend your time watching the mime artists and contortionists performing in the picturesque piazza. 14. Queue for a doughnut at Bread Ahead Photo: Bread Ahead
