Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory: This theory emphasizes the interconnectedness of various environmental influences on a child's development, aligning with the adaptive nature of in the moment planning. Habits of Mind: The focus on fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills aligns with the Habits of Mind framework, emphasizing the importance of cultivating adaptable, thoughtful learners.

Anyone who visits our nursery (or Reception classes) comments on how calm and purposeful the children are. They are actually assessing the levels of involvement, the amount of brain activity and the amount of progress that is happening. They can see that the children are not stressed and nor are the staff. (Stress causes areas of the brain to shut down and therefore development is hindered). The children are displaying high levels of involvement and so are the staff. I will endeavour, through this book, to explain how this can be achieved. There are many products out there that claim to be the answer to planning for your setting. Short, medium, and long-term plans are published online to be bought into. All the curriculum areas are covered in detail so that what is to be done each half term is known for the whole year, sometimes for the whole school. These documents are sometimes accompanied by ‘knowledge organisers’ which dictate exactly the subject-specific vocabulary and concepts to be covered. A nursery practitioner needs to work closely with the children. So the schools need highly-skilled, instinctive practitioners. Each educational setting is unique, and an adults role is to provide students with an enjoyable experience of learning and experiment to know what works for his educational setting.

Considerations of 'in the moment planning'

The nursery school practitioners must always go to the children. If the practitioner would ask children to come to him, he may disrupt the flow of children playing with the provided nursery resources. As one of the most effective types of learning, this taps into a child’s natural instincts. It ensures children are at the centre of their own learning and teachers simply facilitate this. They should not distract or lead the child away from activities they choose for themselves. Planning activities and topics in advance is not necessary, as teachers can extend a child’s interests as and when they arrive. More Time for Positive Relationships
