About this deal

In most versions of the legend, she is named ‘Morveren’, however, in his novel ‘Seat of Storms’ Craig Weatherhill includes a mermaid of Zennor named ‘Azenor’. This is most likely derived from ‘Asenora’, the original Breton name of St Senara who founded the church in Zennor. I’m not the only one endlessly fascinated by the story – since Cornish folklorist William Bottrell first recorded the mermaid’s tale/tail in 1873 there have been constant homages to the legend, from operas to poems and indie pop and folk songs. Zennor folks tell the following story, which, according to them, accounts for a singular carving on a bench-end in their Church. Hundreds of years ago a very beautiful and richly attired lady attended service in Zennor Church occasionally—now and then she went to Morvah also; —her visits were by no means regular, —often long intervals would elapse between them.

In the choir were some fine singers, but none finer than Mathy Trewhella, a handsome young man who sang a clear high tenor: his voice could be heard all over Zennor Churchtown when he wished. As the choristers sang their hymns and psalms Mathy became aware of the stranger staring at him with those emerald-green mysterious eyes; when he looked at her it seemed to him that a queer faint smile hovered on her face. After the service she was the first to leave the church, and those who went out after her thought it strange how rapidly she had disappeared, as they could not see her anywhere outside. And so the mermaid was carved into the bench at the church of Zennor, and all the parents told their children to be careful about mysterious women with long, beautiful hair. Ignored by her callous parents and bullied by her peers at school, the young girl finds herself quite alone. Nobody wants to talk to her save Aislinn, her bubbly classmate, and Mrs Khoury, the school's councillor - but, even then, Lilac suspects they only do so out of pity. But I had a fantastic time and we are very well matched, and, I don’t know, in some ways it’s a very nice way to date? Because we got to know each other very well before we met in person, so there was a strong emotional connection. In terms of feelings, we really knew each other very well by the time that we met, and we really enjoyed spending time together. We’d already had some really important conversations to have in a relationship before, so when we were together, we could just really enjoy the time. There is no definitive answer to this question as there is no agreed-upon definition of what constitutes a town. Generally speaking, a town is considered to be a populated area with a name, defined boundaries, and local government. However, there are many small settlements around the world that could be considered towns by this definition but are not formally recognized as such. Zennor, a small village in Cornwall, England, is one such example. While it may not be an official town, it nonetheless has a long history and is home to a number of notable landmarks. Zennor Walk

The legend is linked to St. Senara in Sue Monk Kidd's The Mermaid Chair, [12] which was adapted into a movie in 2006. [13]
