About this deal

The MAX 360c Mk II comes with some filtering improvements and as a result makes it one of the more quiet radar detectors currently available.

Given below are some more features that help this radar stand out and provide a better user experience when driving. SPECTRE Immunity Uniden also allows users to pre-determine what tones they want to hear when a certain laser frequency is caught or when a specific band is being used. Here are some good tone selection recommendations: Note: I’ve tested two R8’s, both provided by Uniden. One has pre-production hardware, the other production. Both are running beta firmware. I’ve been mostly driving with the production R8. It has firmware 1.22 which is very close to the production firmware 1.23 that will be shipped on retail R8’s and should offer the same performance and overall experience as what we’ve been testing, according to what I’ve been told. Also, as always, this is not a paid or sponsored review. Design The Uniden R8 is an impressive new radar detector. It’s been my daily driver since November and I’ve been enjoying it so much that even after finishing beta testing and creating this Uniden R8 review, I continue choosing the R8 as my go-to radar detector of choice. In any event, the Uniden R8 builds upon the already extreme performance of the Uniden R7 and provides its driver with as much sensitivity one could ever desire.X-band: operating between 8.0 and 12.0 GHz, the X-band is an older band used mostly by automatic doors. If you receive this alert, it is most likely not law enforcement. You may want to turn this band off if your radar allows you to. While other newer more sensitive radar detectors have since become available–such as the Escort Redline 360c–my preference remained the R7. Basically, I feel it’s been just a more well-rounded radar detector. User testing [ 1]revealed that even though the R8 is not fully undetectable, it does well most of the time. The results are quite variable and also depend on the filtering mode you have on. If you want something that is 100% stealth, then you should go with the V1 Gen2 or Redline 360c. Laser tends to get easier to detect when one drives with lighter colored vehicles having sloped hoods because of reflections from the hood tend to be more easily “seen” by the laser sensor so those results are subjected to improving further. Overall we were pleased with the R8’s laser detection, although we always would like more. The New Zealand Government is currently rolling out new red-light and speed cameras throughout the country.

My heartfelt congratulations goes to Uniden America for continuing to push the envelope of what’s possible in a detector. It didn’t take long for the answers to come and I was very pleasantly surprised to have a pre-release Uniden R8 in my hands in early November. Uniden honored us by allowing us to have to have the first look at their soon to be released Uniden R8 when they got their first small batch of pre-production units and I have been driving with it extensively since that time. The Uniden R8 includes a built-in GPS, which determines your geographic location and then identifies “set frequency locations” in your area from a database. Set frequency locations often include things like red light and speed cameras. New Platform

Uniden’s re-entry into the radar detector industry several years ago has shaken the industry up big time. This translates to a potential increase in detection range by about 60%, not an inconsequential amount. This top-of-the-line, feature-rich radar detector comes complete with auto-learning for both the tech-heads and the technologically challenged

But the Uniden R8 takes things even further: it has a dedicated false alert filter called Ka Guard. Ka Guard detects and mutes any K band false alerts from other drivers’ collision avoidance systems that are scattered throughout your vicinity. The Uniden R7 does not have this feature, so the Uniden R8 wins out here! Laser Sensitivity The radar also comes with an auto-dimming feature which adjusts the light emitted by the display based on the ambient light in the cabin. This is a very nifty feature and allows for more covert driving in the evening. This is a new feature which was made a part of the firmware recently. Uniden has not given any confirmation as to how this function will be integrated with apps that can take advantage of bluetooth.

The R8 has a 12 different alert tones each of which can be assigned to the specific band or type of radar and laser. My recommendations for tone selection are:When the R8 goes off to a BSM, it’s typically a pretty weak alert. No full tilt screaming that makes you wanna panic stomp the brakes unnecessarily. When it comes to photo radar detection, the R8 is designed to detect the MRCD, MRCT, and Gatso. I don’t have any of them in my area so I’m unable to test this. However, @Dukes on RDF has been beta testing the R8 in Edmonton where they use MRCD like crazy. Here’s his take on how the R8 compares to the R7: Notably the R8 also beat out the R7 on 33.8, 34.7, 35.5, and K band. Given that the R7 is already a top notch detector, it looks like the R8 does indeed offer even longer range as advertised. Optional Remote Keypad Allows easy access to the radar menus and functions without having to reach the R8 buttons on the unit SPECIFICATIONS:
