In February 2019 the prime minister, Boris Johnson, said he would bring forward a ban on new petrol and diesel car sales from 2040 to 2035, or even sooner if a “faster transition is feasible”, and confirmed it would include hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. There are several advantages of petrol engines, especially when compared to diesel. In some countries like Australia, the standard unleaded petrol available is 91 RON however in the UK the standard unleaded is 95 RON, meaning unless you’re driving abroad you are unlikely to come across 91 RON petrol.The Up may be tiny, but it’s got a sharp interior, decent build quality and feels as polished as many bigger cars. The 65bhp petrol engine is nippy in town and frugal at 55.2mpg, although it isn’t suited for motorway driving where it feels strained. Maruti Suzuki’s new DualJet K10 petrol engine and Heartect platform have proved to be quite popular, helping them achieve strong sales figures. The new petrol engine is more efficient and produces 67hp and 89Nm. It’s paired with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox, giving customers plenty of choices.
