About this deal

In February 2019 the prime minister, Boris Johnson, said he would bring forward a ban on new petrol and diesel car sales from 2040 to 2035, or even sooner if a “faster transition is feasible”, and confirmed it would include hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The Mazda 2 looks great, drives brilliantly, and has plenty of standard kit. The base 75bhp petrol does 58.9mpg, but for a bit more you can get the 90bhp version which ekes out a diesel-rivalling 60.1mpg. Some alternatives do offer more impressive tech, though.

As with any car, keeping to the recommended service intervals, ensuring that the tyres are at the correct pressure, and avoiding aggressive driving all help to reduce fuel consumption figures. The government has been tightening the timeframe for a ban on petrol and diesel cars since it first announced the idea in July 2017, when it proposed 2040 as the start date. In October 2018, the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee described that plan as “vague and unambitious”. There are several advantages of petrol engines, especially when compared to diesel. For starters, generally, petrol is cheaper to buy at the pumps, while it’s much better suited to shorter journeys and stop-start traffic than a diesel because they’re less likely to get clogged up. There are more than half a million “historic” vehicles — those over 40 years old — on British roads and it is unlikely that will change. It is expected that in the twenty years or so following the petrol and diesel car ban, old-style fuels will become less sought after, more expensive and harder to come. Since 2011, all new cars sold in the UK have been E10 compatible, but despite this the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) estimate around 8% of the UK’s petrol cars remain incompatible with the fuel.

As 2035 approaches, the values of used petrol, diesel and hybrid cars are expected to plummet, as manufacturers still offering new models for sale are likely to discount heavily. 6. While the majority of UK cars are E10 compatible, they’re unable to run effectively on E85 and mixing the two could cause driving issues and even engine damage in the long-run so it’s not recommended.

The Swift offers decent interior space and is fun to drive, but its boot is small even for dinky cars like it. The mild-hybrid 83bhp petrol engine is no slouch, though, and manages an excellent 59.7mpg in mixed driving conditions. If you mix premium unleaded (which has an octane of 95 RON) and super unleaded (97/98 RON) evenly in your tank, you’ll end up with a mixed-grade petrol of around 96 RON. The Sandero is cheap as cheap can be, and costs buttons to run too. Go for the 1.0-litre petrol and you can expect 53.3mpg according to the official figures. Considering the budget price tag, the Sandero asks surprisingly few compromises, but the two-star Euro NCAP safety rating is disappointing. In some countries like Australia, the standard unleaded petrol available is 91 RON however in the UK the standard unleaded is 95 RON, meaning unless you’re driving abroad you are unlikely to come across 91 RON petrol. The Up may be tiny, but it’s got a sharp interior, decent build quality and feels as polished as many bigger cars. The 65bhp petrol engine is nippy in town and frugal at 55.2mpg, although it isn’t suited for motorway driving where it feels strained. Maruti Suzuki’s new DualJet K10 petrol engine and Heartect platform have proved to be quite popular, helping them achieve strong sales figures. The new petrol engine is more efficient and produces 67hp and 89Nm. It’s paired with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox, giving customers plenty of choices. Electric cars have no engine or exhaust pipe and therefore do not emit any CO2, NOx, CO or PM (particulate matter - some PM will come from tyre wear, as it does with all cars). http://farmingforum.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?8604-Petrol-in-jerry-cans http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/11098-illegal-to-fill-more-than-1-jerry-can-since-when/ A petrol engine requires a series of components to work in unison to run properly, and when they don’t is when problems emerge.

B10 diesel is a new variety of diesel now available on forecourts in France which contains10% biodiesel. As a result, the Dzire is now more powerful by 7hp and more efficient in both 5-speed manual (23.26kpl) and 5-speed AMT (24.12kpl) forms, making it the most fuel-efficient petrol sedan on sale in India. There is no consistent law surrounding fuel storage and there is currently no International, European or British Standard for the storage of petrol in metal containers. However, there are many references to a “suitable” or “robust” container in the legislation, which states that “a UN-Approved metal container meeting the performance requirements for the carriage of petrol… would be considered robust for most storage conditions.” In terms of volume, HSE states that “suitable petrol containers” include: For a reminder, here are the important laws drivers need to know if they intend to store petrol at home. This is where the laws become unclear, as it isn't set out in writing as to how much you can legally keep in your car.The new engine with the manual gearbox has an ARAI-claimed fuel economy of 22.35kpl, while the new AMT versions have an even higher fuel economy of 22.94kpl. Labelling for unleaded petrol (and diesel) changed in Summer 2019 to match the EU standardisation requirements of the time. Instead of being called “unleaded” or “diesel”, fuels started being referred to for their biofuel blend – unleaded petrol called E for ethanol and diesel called B for biodiesel – and their biofuel percentage. The Kwid 1.0 manual is nearly as efficient, with an ARAI mileage of 21.74kpl, while the 0.8-litre unit is rated at 20.71kpl. With these powertrain options, the Kwid is slightly more fuel-efficient than the Datsun Redigo. If you want a low emission car and you're not yet ready to make the switch to an electric car, full hybrids and plug-in hybrids (for those who can keep them charged up) are your best bet. Are electric cars better for the environment?

The higher-spec VXI and VXI+ variants (which have 14-inch rims) have a slightly higher 21.7kpl rating – whereas the lower variants are rated at 21.4kpl. In addition to these great features, the S-Presso is also one of the most affordable cars in its class! The latest petrol prices posted by the RAC state that unleaded currently costs 135.90 pence per litre (PPL), super unleaded is currently costing 148.23 PPL, while diesel is priced at 137.62 PPL, as prices continue to fluctuate amidst the driver shortage. One solution to the problem might be an exemption to the ban for classic cars, which is a niche interest and so unlikely to make a significant contribution to climate change.
