The Wheel of the Year is an annual cycle of seasonal festivals, observed by a range of modern pagans, marking the year's chief solar events ( solstices and equinoxes) and the midpoints between them. British neopagans crafted the Wheel of the Year in the mid-20th century, combining the four solar events (" quarter days") marked by many European peoples, with the four seasonal festivals ("cross-quarter days") celebrated by Insular Celtic peoples. [1] Different paths of modern Paganism may vary regarding the precise timing of each celebration, based on such distinctions as the lunar phase and geographic hemisphere. This festival can be celebrated in many ways. No matter how informal or festive you wish your celebrations to be, it is up to you. There are many ways to celebrate. You can celebrate it with family and friends, or you can be more introspective and observe it on your own.
Spring is also characterized by its association with fertility. The soil is rich and there is plenty of plant life for animals to nourish themselves with, which is why many mammals that mate during fall or winter give birth in the spring, or in the case of denning animals, see their first glimpse of life outside the den in spring. While Yule is a time of darkness, it’s also a time of rebirth, as it’s a new beginning for light to enter the world again.

Beltane , also known as May Day, is the midpoint between spring and summer. Life bursts from the earth as the sun shines its light on nature. This sabbat invokes passion, love, and sexuality. This taking on of power by the God as the Sun King and the end of his youthful days running in the greenwood represents the strength and power of the sun over the summer months, though pagans also remember that the God’s path is downhill now (the shortening of days until Yule). Saturnalia was a wild and riotous Roman festival honoring thegod of agriculture, Saturn. However, it expanded over time from very humble beginnings. This sabbat is focused on giving thanks above anything else. Reflect on what you’ve been given, and what seeds of ideas you can plant for the new year. Give yourself something to look forward to through the doldrums of winter.
