About this deal

Depth may not always be impressive, but it delivers when it counts, and while not an Atmos mix, the DTS-HD MA 5. reproductions, and limited edition packaging with a reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Daniel Taylor. Stunning cinematography and effects create an experience that begs to be enjoyed in full 4K HDR glory on as big a screen as you can find. That's obviously not a complaint lobbed at its source material, just what was chosen to be shown on the screen.

The sets, the costumes, the ships…everything is so beautifully and intricately designed – this isn’t a clean glossy future, but one almost medieval in aesthetic.

For David Lynch’s version ( any of the cuts) the difficulty has been capturing the character's internal monologues and plot details in a way that distills that massive book down to a two-hour- and change film. His depiction of the characters and planet were excellent, although the final 30 minutes seemed rushed. The Zimmer score most definitely both impresses you and daunts you; thus filling you with the aforementioned awe. Home Entertainment's Dune (2021) remained on top of both the Blu-ray-only and overall packaged media charts in its third week. The planet Arrakis has been ruled over by the Harkonnen family for 80 years, growing rich from spice mining – a substance that prolongs the lives of its users, but is also key to interstellar travel. The conversion also doesn't make any protrusion effect, so nothing actually "pops" out of the screen. It may only be Part One of two (the second is due for a 2023 release), but the ending still feels quite abrupt; nothing in the story feels resolved, and it’s hardly an edge-of-your-seat cliff-hanger. For example, the Padishah Emperor Shaddom IV who is an architect of the plot against the Atreides isn’t introduced. It's arguably one of the most immersive, intense tracks of 2021 (not that it'll make a UK Top 10 list as for some inexplicable reason it's not hitting our shores until 2022).

As the two families clash on Arrakis, Duke Atreides' son Paul (Kyle MacLachlan, in his screen debut) finds himself at the centre of an intergalactic war and an ancient prophecy that could change the galaxy forever. simply insisted the book was a sort of Second Coming in and of itself, a messianic work of sheer genius. That being said, the promise of Dune: Part Two does make this ending much less disappointing – even if expectations will be high for the concluding instalment… (You can read my full review of the film from its original cinema release here.Blu-ray provides solid support including a very good 1080p transfer, Dolby Atmos audio, and a nice collection of bonus features.
