A vitrectomy is an extremely rare event and the decision to perform one is not taken lightly. Grim, important, vivid, visceral, and witness to the world in a way that I can sense and hear so I witness, but I am not a witness, I do not see it happen, but know it does. I wasn’t moved by the poems, and there was no sentimentality, no brush of the human that moves me when trying to read activist poetry. Grim is the word. However. This poet should be a poet laureate of the US. Forever.
