About this deal

This star light has 6 light modes, 3 brightness adjustments, and a calming night light mode. For example, you can set the light to fade, set it to sequence through colours or even set it to display a combination of colours. For added convenience, this light runs off of batteries or USB and rotates 360-degrees. The hardware is simple and straightforward. It includes a small lamp that runs on 4 x AA batteries (not included) and a square base. The assembled night sky dome, positioned over the lamp, has support fixed at each of its four corners. Once the lights are off, the stars on the globe light up, casting their projections onto the walls and ceiling. One of the most important things to consider with star projectors is where you’ll project these images. Popcorn ceilings and walls covered in framed artwork aren’t optimal because they disrupt the image. Taking those interior decorations down to view your projector isn’t practical, of course, so if you can’t project on an blank wall or ceiling, make sure your space is as dark as possible to view all your star projector has to offer. Projecting closer to the walls, a.k.a. in a smaller room, results in a crisper picture. Generally speaking, the brighter the LED bulb wattage, the better the visibility. Rotation

Kids who love watching the Smithsonian Channel will love this science kit from the same company, which lets them view stars and constellations in their bedrooms. It comes with slides that use high-definition images and lets kids choose the type of skies they want to view. They can combine those images together to create more than 50 displays that include stars, planets and even astronauts. Designed for those over the age of eight, this home planetarium star projector helps kids study the planets and learn about space. This makes it one of the few projectors that serve as a STEM toy. It also features a timer setting that shuts the projector off after 15 to 30 minutes. Using a patented photographic process similar to microfiche, the Homestar Flux uses analog removable discs with very high resolution, simultaneously showing as many as a million distinct stars. The product was designed in conjunction with Japanese astronomer/engineer Takayuki Ohira(TED Talk), the inventor of the Megastar, a professional laser-based planetarium projector that can show the most stars in the world. Sega (via its Sivesco subsidiary) has been in the home planetarium business since 2006. There are also third parties that also make discs for the unit besides Sega, such as Miller Engineering. With this in mind, more realistic and accurate options tend to be appreciated by people who love astrology: young adults and adults. In contrast to the stylised options, a realistic star projector will show you the night sky including constellation maps, planets, and star groups. This is like creating a planetarium at home, which can be a fun, educational, and relaxing experience. Ease of Use The National Geographic Astro Planetarium is an affordable and high-quality indoor planetarium that accurately depicts the night sky, offering excellent value. It comes with two projection discs – one displaying 8,000 stars and the other featuring guidelines for major constellations. Crucially, what you see is true to the time and day you set, as we confirmed during our National Geographic Astro Planetarium review. There are 30 additional discs available when you visit Astrial, Sega Toys' official online store. Simulations of the aurora borealis and the aurora australis are perhaps the highlights. There is a disc that displays the planets of the solar system as well, but it is the ones that show galaxies, nebulas and other NASA-based imagery that really stand out. For example, the North America nebula as taken by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope and the weird seven-star system called Jabbah (officially called Nu Scorpii and IC 4592) as imaged by NASA's WISE mission. You can also buy disks that simulate fireworks, 'night jellyfish' and a hot-air balloon festival. Most star projectors will have a sleep timer — we look for how many options for the sleep timer duration you have and whether it is effective and reliable.

The 5-Watt LED projects pin-sharp images across the whole projection, from edge to edge. The operation is quiet, and there are three sleep timers for automatic shut-off. There's no remote, app control, or in-built speaker, but these aren't functions you'll need if all you're doing is selecting your desired disk and switching the projector on to gaze at the stars. Three are a few different types of star projects aimed at different ages/uses. Below we’ve outlined the main ones. Children/Baby Night Lights

Smooth focus dial allowing for projection distances of as small as 120 cm to 290 cm (3'11" to 9'5") Star projectors vary in shapes, features and sizes, catering to different needs. Some models, like those designed as night lights for children, focus on creating a soothing atmosphere rather than realistic star patterns. Meanwhile, there are highly accurate star projectors that aim to provide a scientific representation of the night sky, offering an experience that will feel like being inside a planetarium. Unlike some other models, we found it to be near silent in its operation, which is great if you're using it to get to sleep or whilst watching a film. Our New #1 Best Choice Star Projector Encalife Atmosphere Star Light Galaxy Projector – Alexa / Google Assistant App Controlled Projector The BlissLights Sky Lite is one of the best star projectors for use in bedrooms and living areas. It boasts an innovative design and uses patented holographic technology to transform your room into a vast galaxy complete with a nebula cloud effect.

Operation is manual rather than digital, but you can access additional informative descriptions of the pictures on the slides online using a provided 'secret code.' This allows children to learn more about the objects in space and adds a bit of fun and mystery to learning. This fun dome lamp is also energy efficient, as it just needs four AAA batteries or a USB cable to power it. There are a few setting options allowing you to control the lamp’s timer, brightness, rotation and colour. This has multiple uses as it can be a standard warm light night light too. There are also two types of light show you can enjoy: the stars and moon projected on the ceiling or the internally-shining light in the lamp that gently glows. This is a great quality star projector for any space fan. We were dubious how good this star projector would be, as historically, novelty-shaped star projectors are pretty disappointing. We're pleased to say that during our Astronaut Starry Sky Projector review, this 'cute' projector meets space-themed ornament surpassed our expectations.

You'll need to set up your phone's Bluetooth before you start using the projector, but it's easy enough to do so, and the device will be up and running within moments. We've chosen to put this projector at the top of this list as it offers the same (or even better) functionality than the Sega Toys Homestar Flux but at a much lower cost. The answer to this question depends on the type of star projector you're considering. Some FDA-approved laser star projectors are safe for brief and accidental exposure to eyes, but they are not recommended for children, and you should never look directly into a laser beam. These home planetariums work by shining a light through a slide and using a lens to focus it on the walls of your home.
