Then comes Evelyn, the evil mother-in-law. Overbearing, a little unstable, a lot intrusive, Evelyn is pretty much the mom that wives dread. Still, Sam is so great … anyone who raised him has to be a good person, right? The first thing that comes to my mind, after reading, is…. Thank the heavens that I have a great mother-in-law! 😂 I am excited to be taking part in the #BooksOnTour #BlogTour for Karen King's tense domestic thriller THE MOTHER-IN-LAW. She’s obsessively protective over Sam. She wants to know where he is all the time. She wakes us up in the morning, bustling into our room like he’s a small child, not a grown man. She doesn’t want me to be alone with him. And with every day that passes—as I keep having accidents I can’t believe are coincidental—I start to fear more that she doesn’t want me to marry her son. Then I overhear an argument between her and Sam’s dad. Evelyn has a secret. And it changes everything I thought I knew about the family I’m marrying into.

The story is woven in a manner that makes you doubt all characters at one point or another. And I must admit that while I thought I had it all solved and knew what the next steps will bring, I found myself intrigued by some of the unpredictable twists. Wow this book had me short of breath and my pulse palpitating … One of those books I cannot recommend highly enough. It’s gripping and emotional and leaves you wanting more … Fantastic.’ @rubie_readsKaren is a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association, the Society of Authors, the Crime Writers’ Association and the Society of Women Writers and Journalists. She now lives in Spain where she loves to spend her non-writing time exploring the quaint local towns with her husband, Dave, when she isn’t sunbathing or swimming in the pool, that is. Escapism read, smart writing, a tense plot, red herrings here and there, misfit characters, suspenseful atmosphere, it’s all here for your entertainment. Things get interesting when the police come calling and inform her that Phil has been involved in a terrible car crash. As he recovers and comes to, it is clear that he is suffering from insomnia. And then it was time to meet his parents. "They'll love you" Sam assured her. But Dana wasn't so sure...particularly when she saw their house. Sam came from a very different world to her and she was sure his parents wanted more for him. But they were in love and not only were they engaged but they had both decided on a summer wedding...in just a few months time. His parents were stunned but accepting of their decision. Maybe things wouldn't be so bad after all. A mother-in-law can be seen as mean and untrustworthy, within reasons. She will only want what's best for her child and not settle for anything less.

He cannot remember anything about the bliss of their honeymoon and the days when they had a perfect relationship. All he is interested in is having a happy marriage. Freya knows just how dangerous it would be to give the man another chance. It’s natural that you notice the cover first. And boy did I notice the cover. The cake, the font, it all stood out to me. But all in all I find it very well done and it definitely grabs your attention. And here we get it right at the beginning when the prologue sets the tone for what's to come later in the novel. The Mother-In-Law is an engaging psychological thriller that will have the reader hooked from the get-go. The characters were all ok, could have more depth. It was all a tad stereotypical. But in this case, I really did not mind. I got the read that I expected and don’t mean that in a bad way. The book itself isn’t very long and I finished it in 3 evenings (around 2 hours a day in between doing other things). Because the plot is character driven, the players in the novel are well developed. Author, King has managed to capture the essence of each individual’s personality. And with just a handful of characters, it was easy to get a feel of who I liked and disliked.
