About this deal

Each model of Dell's OptiPlex line of computers typically includes an Ultra-Small Form Factor (USFF) chassis option. In the Core 2 era, these machines used 8.9cm (3.5") desktop hard drives and external power supplies, such as the OptiPlex 745 and 755. More recent units use 6.4cm (2.5") laptop hard drives and have integrated power supplies, such as the OptiPlex 990 USFF. The compact size comes at the cost of restricted expandability, as USFF models have no PCI or PCIe slots and may have limited CPU and memory options. The NPB7 is the flagship of the Venus series and features the incredible Intel Core i7-13700H (14 cores, 20 threads) mobile CPU and up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM. However, it can be bought barebones with the processor installed by the RAM and M.2 NVMe storage provided by the customer. The term "microcomputer" has its origins in the 1970s—the "micro" of the personal computers emerging then lay in stark contrast to the room-size mainframe beasts of the day. Micro PC and SFF PC? What is the Difference Between a Micro PC and SFF PC?

Most desktop workstation buyers want tons of expandability and upgradeability. HP's Z2 Mini G9 doesn't have those, but it has awesome performance, impressive connectivity, and surprising serviceability for a PC only 2.7 by 8.3 by 8.6 inches big. Though it can hide under a desk or behind a monitor with an optional VESA mount, the Z2 Mini accommodates the 125-watt processors you'll find in full-size towers, such as our test unit's flagship Intel Core i9-12900K, and an industry-standard graphics card. The latter must be a half-length, half-height GPU powered by the PCI Express slot, but the 12GB Nvidia RTX A2000 in our review system is certainly no slouch. Who It's For YouTube videos can reduce the hassle of determining the sequence of steps, but either way, you’re still going to invest more minutes (or hours) overall. Cable management can take extra work in particular—when one PCWorld staff member built his first SFF PC, that was the very first thing that he learned. Why go SFF?This is where you start to dig into system specifications, so it's essential to have a good idea of how you will use your mini PC if you want to make an informed decision. If you're looking for a productivity machine, you can skimp on the CPU and go for a unit with integrated graphics. If your needs are a little more demanding than that, then you’ll have to step up to a slightly larger mini PC. The term larger is relative, of course, since powerful mini PCs that can act as desktop replacements and even decent gaming rigs are significantly smaller than your average desktop PC.

The Raspberry Pi 400 is a mini PC, albeit in an unusual form factor. All the components you need for a PC are built within the keyboard. Just plug in a mouse and a monitor, and you're off to the races. So, in one sense, you've got a compact computer ready to go anywhere with you, but on the other hand, the Raspberry Pi 400 lives outside the spirit of the Raspberry Pi. This isn't a circuit board for tinkers; it's a computer. Memory refers to random access memory (RAM), a volatile memory used when the computer is on and lost when the computer is turned off. It’s useful for multitasking because each program or app takes up memory while running, and it’s also essential for tasks like image and video editing and gaming. The AS 6 is a different beast compared to the AS 5. This NUC system might look identical from the outside, but the Zen 3+ processor and DDR5 in this system can deliver a dramatically improved performance.A laptop is better for travel since it is entirely self-contained but has fewer ports and is typically less powerful than a comparably priced mini PC. Mini PCs are like a desktop tower in a smaller, space-saving box. The system is enclosed in an oddly wedge-shaped enclosure that is designed to sit on the desk rather than to be mounted on the rear of a monitor.
