You transfer data from your PC to the iXpand (or vice versa) the same way you would using any other flash drive. Simply plug it into a USB port, let it automatically install the necessary drivers, and you're able to drag and drop files.

Freeman / iMore) You should buy this if ... Despite a seemingly sturdy build, the iXpand began to show signs of wear after only a couple of days of use. The middle, curved part of the rubber cable creased and eventually split open, exposing the wires inside. A second iXpand showed creasing after a similar period of use, although it didn't fully split open. In both cases, the drive continued to function.The Drive app didn't prove very stable in testing. During our read and write tests, in which we time the transfers of large (1GB+) files, the app crashed frequently or froze partway through transfers. Attempting to navigate folders in the phone's internal storage also caused the app to crash on occasion. The iDiskk iPhone USB flash drive is also a related product that looks like a standard thumb drive with a Lightning connector on one end. It costs almost the exact same price per storage model as the iXpand, but the advantage of the iDiskk is that it supports more video file formats. You can also view photos, play music, and watch video directly from the flash drive. The app supports AVI, MKV, MP4, MOV, and WMV video formats, including 4K content. It can also handle pictures and music in every major format. DRM-protected content cannot be played, however.
It’s also important to note that the iXpand app only supports .M4P and .MOV video file formats. Our digital copy of Avengers was a .M4V file (ironically developed by Apple as a form of DRM). So while we were able to transfer it from the PC to the flash drive like any other media file, but we could not play it in the app once we connected the iXpand to our iOS device. With the iPhone 6s Plus, average read speeds were much lower, at 28.47MBps. We were unable to get an accurate write speed result, as the Drive app only allows photos to be copied from the iPhone to the iXpand, and attempting to transfer a large number of pictures always resulted in a crash. The drive is formatted in exFAT, giving it broad compatibility with Apple devices and PCs. The iXpand is compatible with the iPhone 5 and later, as well as the iPad mini and newer—basically, any iOS 8 device with a Lightning port. It also works with Macs, and PCs running with Windows Vista or later.
