The film is based on the popular SEGA video game series, and did very well both with critics and the crowds. It became the highest-grossing video game film in the US, and did very at the UK box office as well. Having to flee from his homeworld via a teleportation ring, a fast, blue hedgehog by the name of Sonic ends up on Earth at a very young age. Having to fend for himself for many years, he eventually is hunted by a mad scientist and befriended by a man named Tom (James Marsden). Their bond has them eventually working together against the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). This movie is less like the video game and more of a "What If?" scenario for the character of Sonic. Personally, I found myself attached to the story and many of the elements made it an even more enjoyable experience. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is basically everything the first Sonic movie should have been. While the first film wasn't bad per se and perfectly watchable, it was very basic and clearly limited in scope and budget. Still alright overall. Once Paramount+ launches in the UK (on June 22), there’s a possibility the film will become available to stream on it at no extra cost – but we don’t have official confirmation yet, and it will most likely not be available at launch.
