About this deal

The FBI agent will once more face her past and her family and might start to look into her sister's disappearance. The characters felt well developed, I feel I know jack, his family, and their relationships as well as how his department works, although this is a lesser content. Mature readers will find this harsh tale softened by unusual empathy and leavened by genuinely funny events. With no real support, Jack has to take matters into his own hands as danger ensues but can he ignore the values he cherishes? The final 40% of the book does pick up, but it seems so farfetched and out of character; then before there is any real conclusion, the book ends. The protagonist of the novel, Jane, is a talented pianist who has been wrongly accused by the Fowler family of theft and betrayal.

After briefly being questioned by the Secret Service (his wife was a political journalist in DC and had clearance pass through many government buildings) her death was ruled a suicide when drugs are found in her system. Welcome to The Close - a beautiful street of mansions, where gorgeous Stella is the indisputable Queen Bee . As McNeal delves deeper into Caroline’s disappearance, he discovers that her work as a political journalist had led her to investigate an eerily similar disappearance of a DC socialite years earlier. I realised that I was 60% of the way in and nothing of any significance, depth or meaning had really happened. The scenes lack description, so you are not able to really submerse yourself within the story, each chapter reads as a brief outline of events. There is also no explanation why a CIA operative (agent) would have contacts anywhere in government, much less arch rival FBI executives, to get them to take unwarranted action, even a former high level FBI colleague would not get such cooperation.

I hoped the original direction of the book continued because the story depth had a quality that might have made the book a classic worth reading multiple times. But a late-night visit from the Secret Service lands Jack on the other side of the table―as a suspect in the disappearance of his estranged wife, Caroline, a prominent reporter on the White House beat. She has recently written Discovering Dinosaurs for the Double Take series, and has also written for My Story, Pickle Hill Primary and Top Ten. She had an enormous fight with her husband the night before, which started small and escalated as they are known to do, about everything from dinner to her step-children and her husbands ex and wants to catch up with a girlfriend for a drink and a chat.

Well-drawn characters – The characters in the novel are multi-dimensional and believable, with complex motivations and relationships that add depth to the story.

He still loved his estranged wife, Caroline, but their marriage hadn't survived the death of their six year old son, and the horrible circumstances leading to it. Tension mounts – along with the body count – until the shock ending, one of only many twists and turns the reader will encounter along the way. Jim Thane is a restart executive, a Silicon Valley veteran who specialises in taking on failing companies and turning them around, making them profitable.
