Why does Oogie Boogie have such a major connection to gambling?
Oogie appears in episode two of the second season. It turns out Oogie was imprisoned in the dungeon below the villains' castle, by Maleficent after his revival; along with his henchmen. He turns it into his new Oogie Lair. Maleficent comes to visit him, asking for his dice, which allow him to control shadows; to keep Dr. Facilier from helping Ursula with his friends. Oogie is not willing to cooperate, feeling hurt by the villains not including him; though he relented when Maleficent offers him Sandy Claws to torture. Oogie gives her the dice before singing "Oogie's Boogie" about his joy and desire to take over the holiday. Once done, he begins torturing Santa as Maleficent listens outside. For years, Oogie took part in HalloWishes, joining other Disney Villains in hosting a Halloween-inspired castle fireworks show. He also appears in the park's Halloween parade, Frightfully Fun Parade, walking alongside other Disney villains as the villain-themed float tails them. There's no need for Oogie to be a gambler, but it add flair/style to his character. Making him a cut-and-dry villain wouldn't work in a setting where everyone in Halloween town looks like a villain. He needs to stand out of the crowd in a way that the audience sees him as a narrative villain.
