About this deal

These days, we are aware of so many highly talented artists; to the point where this oversaturation of talent can make it pretty difficult to stand out. We immerse ourselves back into Irish trad with Love Song - fiddles and guitars paired with a pop influenced beat and a male choir; as the album at this point becomes more joyful and filled with youthful hope. Through bi-weekly YouTube videos for which she has nearly half a million subscribers she shares original music, cover versions, vlogs and poetry, and posts on a variety of subjects including mental health, sexuality and bullying. There is a melting pot of folk, pop and traditional Irish music shaping the album’s sonic blueprint with Irish scene legends such as Davy Spillane, Eoin Dillan, Brian Fleming and Peter Browne featuring alongside production from Jonathan Quarmby (Lewis Capaldi, Tom Walker). There is an accompanying book also - which delves into the details behind the events that inspired the songs, excerpts of these chapters being read by Janet on her highly successful Youtube channel here.

The sound works perfectly for Janet’s unique vocal style and gives her a singular identity as a pop artist too. With its thundering drums – not to mention uilleann pipes, accordion, fiddles, bodhrán, cows ribs and whistles – ‘Confessional’ is the fusion of Janet’s identity, inspirations and influences, transforming it from not only a great introductory piece for the upcoming album, but also a fitting foundation for her re-entry to the musical landscape. However, this album cuts through all of this; not only in how it fuses genres from different ages (with magnificent results); but how it weaves trauma, addiction and mental illness into such an astounding body of work. The trinity of ‘Away With The Fairies’, ‘Sweet Sacred Friend’ and ‘Holy Water’ deal with Devlin’s alcoholism, how she says goodbye to the bottle and celebrates sobriety in the end. The first half of the record is considerably more heavy than the second half with the dark mid-tempo pop song ‘Saint of the Sinners’, which deals with the topic of self-harm.We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Beautifully executed, a demonstration of maturity, strength, courage, wisdom, and survival, we commend Janet Devlin’s ‘Confessional’ to you. Having followed her career from the very beginning, that realisation suddenly makes me feel incredibly old, as both milestones seem like forever ago. The track is not only an announcement of the secrets she is going to unfold on the rest of the record, but also a proper introduction of the Irish folk music that is incorporated with her pop sound. Little Daughter - born to a man who needed sons’ a heart wrenching opening line sang with a crystalline angelic vocal; over a light accompaniment of piano, harp and very subtle, icy choir vocals. To mark the occasion, we spoke with the man behind the masters of Matthew Herbert, Eliza Rose and Crass about his most memorable .That baptism of fire into the music industry wouldn’t be easy for the toughest of individuals, but it was Janet’s gentle, sensitive, and even vulnerable interpretations on X-Factor that engaged her to the masses.

Find out what recordist Christopher Parker, technical engineer Leon Marks and mastering engineer Alex Gordon shared from their year at Abbey . In The Irish Times Tony Clayton-Lea said that sometimes the music did not match the lyrical themes of independence and survival, with "the assertiveness of one undermined by the ineffectiveness of the other", but that overall "Devlin delivers a stinging riposte to the music business as an entity and to some people in particular". Then thrown to the lions, the ensuing years would see this young woman battling alcoholism, mental health issues, hitting highs, and plummeting to terrible lows.Especially ‘Sweet Sacred Friend’ and ‘Holy Water’ are both lighter in spirit, upbeat, insanely catchy and drenched in Irish folk instrumentation. Calendar arrived safely in plastic-free packaging - which I've not seen before with a calendar, so kudos for that. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

It disappeared the moment I sang ‘Your Song'” particularly cleverly references her X Factor audition (in which she song thát song by Elton John). The first song Confessional is a powerful song about Janet's struggles in life and and she is so honest about her struggles in almost every song. This sets the tone for an album that does not shy away; or attempt to dilute some of the darkest, most vulnerable moments in life; this album faces these uncomfortable periods head on, with unrelenting ferociousness. In 2011, Janet Devlin wowed X-Factor judges and charmed the nation with her unique vocals and performances. Although the subject matter is heavy, the song itself is a perfectly crafted radio friendly pop anthem with hooks, a flawless build up and her signature tender vocal style. It received a general release via Insomnia Music on 5 June 2020 and marked her first release following the chart success of her second album Running with Scissors almost six years previously. This being especially evident in Big Wide World - which is a bright, sparkly pop affair full to the bring with joy. But rather than this steering her towards greater musical success, Janet faced numerous challenges which almost cost her her career. The biggest selling point of this record however is in how it incorporates traditional Irish folk instrumentation.
