Aiden (age 9) decided to choose an endangered animal not in the book. We were looking at lists of endangered species and snow leopards caught his attention. We printed a photo from Pixabay to use for his poster. In a series of 10 paintings that echo each other in the issue of bright colors and are standardized in terms of size but are not multiples of the same image. Blue whales can be found in all oceans of the world, but they tend to migrate to different areas depending on the time of year. For the majority of the year, they live in deep waters near the Arctic and Antarctic regions, as this area contains a large amount of krill. Then, during mating season, they travel closer to the Equator in search of a warmer climate, so they can give birth in warm waters. Orangutans originally only lived in Asian countries like Malaysia and Indonesia, but they did end up expanding to other countries. The environmental problems now limit them to Sumatra and Borneo. The Sumatran and Bornean Orangutans are endangered, but the Sumatran one is even rarer than the other. These are very intelligent primates. Unfortunately, some people take them as pests and actively hunt them, making them another endangered species. Now, there are only around 500,000 elephants in Africa, and 35,000 in Asia. The main driving force behind the endangerment of Asian elephants is the loss of habitat. Deforestation means that trees are being chopped down to create space for farming, leaving nowhere for elephants to live.
Habitats such as rainforests are being destroyed on vast scales to make space for farmland, commercial logging or human settlements. This scale of deforestation and the clearance of other habitats for agriculture means that wild animals are being confined to smaller and smaller spaces, making it more difficult to find food and raise their young. In turn, this causes wildlife populations to decline. 2) Hunting and poaching In 1983, American artist Andy Warhol (1928-1987) created a portfolio of prints called the Endangered Species series. These works, depicting 10 endangered animals designated in the Endangered Species Act of 1973, are presented in Warhol’s signature pop style which interrogated concepts of commercialization and production. Warhol created these works 10 years after the passing of the historic act as a response to ongoing ecological concerns and the global impact of human destruction of animals and the environment. Something thing that sets the whale shark apart from the rest of the shark species is the fact that it is a filter feeder. Out of the more than 500 species of sharks in the world, only 3 of them are filter feeders: the whale shark, the basking shark, and the megamouth shark. Because of its feeding style, the whale shark tends to live off plankton and other small organisms that float in the water, which is surprising given its size. Blue whales are the biggest creatures to have ever lived on earth. This means that they’re even bigger than the dinosaurs! Moreover, blue whales can weigh up to 200 tons, which is a whopping 181,437kg. Despite their size, blue whales only eat tiny crustaceans called krill. An adult blue whale can eat up to 40 million krill a day.

The main cause of the endangerment of Amur leopards is deforestation. Amur leopards live in forests and so, through the process of deforestation, their habitat is being torn down. Forest fires in summer are also a cause of habitat loss for these leopards. On top of this, many different industrial developments, like coal mining, oil pipelines and new roads pose a major threat to the Amur leopard population. Habitat loss is the main reason behind the endangerment of the whooping crane. In recent years, this species of bird has also been heavily impacted by collisions with power lines, drought, and the development of its natural habitat. Adaptations for elementary school: Teacher can choose 3 or 4 endangered species. As a class, teacher can divide preliminary sketch paper into 3 or 4 sections and show students how to draw each species starting with basic shapes. Teacher can choose to have students just draw species’ faces. (For example: the spotted owl can have a triangle beak with circle eyes, etc.) Have students choose from the grab bag as they enter the class and follow the directions on the “Texture Warm Up”.
Endangered animals and plants are at risk of extinction - there are so few of them that they might soon be wiped out altogether. Although some plants and animals have always evolved more successfully than others, human activity is changing the world in such a way that many more animals and plants are endangered than would otherwise be - around 50% of the plant and animal species on Earth are now at some level of endangerment thanks to human actions. Endangered animals are species where the number of animals living in the wild has been greatly reduced due to a variety of reasons, such as deforestation or changing climate. This means that they are at high risk of dying out in the near future if we don't take any steps to protect them. Teacher has students turn in texture samples and warm-up (to be used for teacher as a pre-assessment of students’ understanding of texture). Teacher asks for definitions of texture and compiles a list on the board of descriptive texture words used in warm-up as well as called out by students. Teacher explains actual versus implied texture and gives examples. A species is defined as endangered or threatened when it is suffers from damage to its habitat for recreational, or entertainment purposes, disease or predation of the species, or hazards to the continued life of the species.

Rhinos are hunted for their horns, which are then powdered and used in medicines in some parts of Asia. More than 94% of rhinos have now been wiped out. As a solution, some park rangers are cutting off rhinos' horns to stop them from being killed. Pollution comes in many forms, including pollution from rubbish, air and water pollution, noise and light pollution and soil contamination. Pesticides can wash into rivers, contaminating the water and harming more than just the bugs targeted on crops. 4) Global warming
