This gift was the first bottle of Disaronno, its name derived from the phrase 'di Saronno' - meaning of, or from, Saronno. He chose a beautiful local innkeeper as his muse for the Madonna, and to thank the artist she prepared a special gift which was none other than a flask full of a certain amber liqueur. The original amaretto since 1525 Disaronno's warm, sophisticated taste has a lineage dating back to one of the most romantic periods in Italian history - the Renaissance. There's still all the hallmark, nutty flavours we know and love from the original Disaronno (which comes from apricot pits, don't you know), but with a smooth, creamy oomph! It wasn’t until the 1960s that Disaronno was first exported to the rest of the world, predominantly the USA.A mark of “Made in Italy” excellence for over 500 years, Disaronno continues to capture the imagination of discerning consumers everywhere. It may not be reproduced in any way whatsoever without Wm Morrisons Supermarkets Limited prior consent, nor without due acknowledgement. In 1600, Giovanni Reina rediscovered the innkeeper’s old recipe and began distilling the liqueur once again, with the secret recipe handed down through the generations. That is how the legend of Disaronno arose: from a simple gesture of kindness and the unique handmade combination of secret ingredients.

Legend has it that Bernardino and his muse (a beautiful innkeeper) fell deeply in love - culminating in the young widow creating a sweet tasting liqueur in honour of her lover. Disaronno's sense of effortless, sociable style and Italian chic make it an ideal liqueur for any occasion.
