About this deal

Mills, Gary B. and Elizabeth Shown Mills. "Roots and the New 'Faction': A Legitimate Tool for CLIO?", Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, 89 (January 1981): 3–26. PDF at Historic Pathways [1]. In Rooted, Sarah weaves her own story around those who taught her what it means to be a farmer. She shines a light on the human side of modern farming, and shows how land connects us all, not only in terms of global sustainability but in our relationships with our physical and mental health, our communities and our planet. This guide is good for weekday daily time with God and great for people newly exploring faith in general or as a new believer to read and discuss with a group. The information is also a good review for those who have been in a long standing relationship with God. I would not recommend going through it alone as application and discussion is intended.

Rooted offers a new and different approach to youth ministry. By encouraging the development of long-term relationships with young people, it provides strong foundations for the nurture of lifelong, authentic faith. It is a simple way for churches and youth leaders to engage young people. Kunta Kinte – original protagonist: a young man of the Mandinka people, grows up in The Gambia in a small village called Juffure; he was raised as a Muslim before being captured and enslaved. Renamed Toby. Even my own patio, sitting under the apple trees, offers a daily respite, watching the robins joyously splash in the bird bath, the sparrows flitting in and out of their nesting box, while bee and butterfly visit the herb garden and zinnia, perhaps oblivious to the rabbit who sneaks in to steal leaves from the rose bush.Kunta is excited to see the world. At one point, Kunta sees men in hoods taking away some of the children. This confuses Kunta, but he is eager when he learns his father, Omoro, will take him outside Juffure. Omoro and Kunta set off, learning much more about their surroundings. When they return, Kunta brags to all his friends about the journey, but does not pay attention to his family's goats, which fall prey to a panther. An honest look at the farming life today. Raw, earthy and inspiring' - Cal Flyn, author of Islands of Abandonment

As this book was made for Mariners Church, the words and examples are made for the readers to connect as a part of that church body and see what that church body is dedicated to with the modern examples. Yet, this does not disqualify the main focus of bringing people to know the fundamentals of Christian faith. This book landed on my desk from an acquaintance who was given an advanced copy. Otherwise, I wouldn't have read. Figured I had nothing to lose but a few hours, however, if time is a commodity, this proved too costly.

stars. An informative & interesting read that raises your hopes that maybe the future of farming in the UK isn't all bad & that some lessons have been learned from recent practices. Jon Fosse, a master of spare Nordic writing in a sprawling body of work ranging from plays to novels and children’s books, won the Nobel Prize in literature on Thursday for works that “give voice to the unsayable”. I hadn’t realized that Haupt grew up Catholic, so the language of mysticism comes easily to her, but even as a child nature was where she truly sensed transcendence. Down by the creek, where she listened to birdsong and watched the frog lifecycle, was where she learned that everything is connected. She even confessed her other church, “Frog Church” (this book’s original title), to her priest one day. (He humored her by assigning an extra Our Father.) How to reclaim that childhood feeling of connectedness as a busy, tech-addicted adult? In a statement released by his publishing house, Samlaget, Fosse said he saw the prize “as an award to the literature that first and foremost aims to be literature, without other considerations”. Despite it being hard to stomach for many of us from the countryside, Monbiot makes a convincing case. In desperate times, a shift to plant-based and even lab-grown food makes simple mathematical sense. Monbiot’s arguments take account of the needs of everyone in society, not just those who can afford premium meat, and not just those of us in the UK. Regenesis aims to be a gamechanger, and indeed it already makes ideas once thought radical seem tame.

I’m thrilled to announce that my new book, Rooted: Life at the Crossroads of Science, Nature, and Spirit, published by Little, Brown Spark is out!! At this moment when our lives and the earth are in such flux and crisis, Rooted digs deep to explore our place within the great tangle.

If women remember that once upon a time we sang with the tongues of seals and flew with the wings of swans, that we forged our own paths through the dark forest while creating a community of its many inhabitants, then we will rise up rooted, like trees. If you're looking to setup a Rooted Hub, the best place to start is with our Rooted Leaders Guide. Filled with workshop ideas, activities, faith exploration and conversation ideas it's a resource that will help you grasp the heart of Rooted and take the first steps in creating a space for young people to grow. Although trees may feel nothing of our attempts to communicate, we, for our part, definitely experience a physical reaction. I encourage you to experience this for yourself. Make a plan to go outside and immerse yourself in nature. If there is a forest near you, make that your destination. If you live in a city, find a park or even just a tree-lined street where you can take a walk. Stand and feel the air on your skin. What can you smell? The gentle, earthy aromas of old leaves gently decomposing on the ground or the tangy, brisk scents of new growth? What can you hear? The scratching of squirrels scuttling up trunks or the rustle of leaves as birds turn them over to find insects underneath? Shut your eyes and feel that this is a place where you belong.
