About this deal

These are the units almost anyone will want to have. While they may not go into every list you ever make (there certainly isn’t enough space) they will tend to fit in a wide variety of different lists, or are so good you’re liable to want to take them often.

Rebel Troopers Upgrade Expansion–You do want this, purely on the basis of the DLT-20a. Its a fairly potent Range 4 gun that allows your troopers to take shots at the enemy from a relatively safe distance, and still do decent damage once you close the gap. The downside is the financial cost can add up, if you’re trying to get one for every one of your trooper units that means you’ll eventually be looking at up to 4 of them. If you want to hold off, the Z6s you got with the rebel troopers can do in a pinch, even though their role is very different. The excellent Rebel Trooper Captain also comes in this box; he gives a unit of Rebel Troopers some suppression mitigation and a training slot, which you’ll want to fill with Situational Awareness to deal with rampant critical hits in the game. Second Priority An unconventional leader like Han Solo needs unconventional soldiers to lead into battle and the Rebel Commandos Unit Expansion is the perfect complement to one of the Rebellion’s most iconic heroes. Like Solo, the seven unpainted, easily assembled miniatures found in this expansion behave a little differently than their fellow soldiers, opening up all sorts of new tactical possibilities for your Rebel armies. points. This works out to 15 points per model, or 50% more expensive than a Rebel Trooper. You’re getting some good perks for your premium, but durability isn’t one of them… Not dealing the same high damage as Luke, Leia’s skills across both ranged and melee combat instead make her more flexible as a commander. Her Sharpshooter keyword ability is noteworthy for dismissing target cover, but it’s through her team buffs that she really shines. Inspire removes suppression tokens from nearby troops, and the Take Cover ability grants doge tokens to those nearby. Keep her close to weak troops as you charge headlong into the throes of conflict. With a smaller points price tag than Luke, fielding Leia will free up enough space to add another Rebel Trooper squadron with an added Z-6 chaingun to your army – useful if you’re after greater heavy firepower. No matter how well concealed they are, however, the Rebel Commandos will inevitably draw the attention—and fire—of opposing forces. When your sniper team comes under fire, they can alwaysThe Rebel Alliance can recruit new members from across the galaxy, finding pilots, soldiers, and medics among those who hate the Empire. Plenty of beings can take up a blaster rifle to fight Stormtroopers, but there are a few who are willing to push the boundaries and do whatever it takes to keep the Rebellion alive. Saboteurs. Snipers. The Rebel Alliance’s most dangerous operatives—now entering the infantry battles played out in your games of Star Wars: Legion. You’ll soon be able to add these squads of Rebel snipers and saboteurs to your Star Wars™: Legion armies with the Rebel Commandos Unit Expansion. Whether you choose to deploy your operatives as a full unit or break them into smaller teams, the seven unpainted, easily assembled Rebel Commando miniatures in this expansion can be enhanced with five upgrade cards that further enhance their unconventional approach to the battle. High Velocity: This is a new keyword. No dodge tokens for your target, if you are only shooting them with the sniper rifle. Rebel Troopers are not going to like that. Speaking of units with small dice pools hurt by the cover changes, here’s Han! Han had a brief renaissance after the ’21 points update when he got Steady, but his double red dice pool, while reliable into no cover or light cover, is absolutely miserable for his cost (and its range) into heavy cover, which is mostly what you’re doing these days.

Commandos won’t form the core presence of a force; rather, if played right, they’ll spend most of the battle darting between cover on the fringes of combat. But the consistent supporting fire they provide is guaranteed to aggravate your opponent, as you chip away at their frontlines from a safe distance. Versio’s Loadout ability also allows you to swap any of Versio’s upgrade cards for others upon deployment, effectively allowing you to build multiple, comparable builds of the same point value, and choose between them at the game’s start. Particularly useful in tournaments where you can’t be sure of your opponent’s forces or the table’s features, as you can instantly swap loadouts to suit. As Star Wars: Legion’s first special forces unit, the Rebel Commandos truly differentiate themselves from other troops with their specialized training that grants them abilities not seen in other troops. For example, Rebel Commandos thrive on covertly inserting themselves into critical areas of the battlefield. This makes them naturally proficient at maintaining a low profile, helping them improve their cover while they infiltrate Imperial operations. The Rebel Alliance can recruit new members from across the galaxy, finding pilots, soldiers, and medics among those who hate the Empire. Plenty of beings can take up a blaster rifle to fight Stormtroopers, but there are a few who are willing to push the boundaries and do whatever it takes to keep the Rebellion alive. Saboteurs. Snipers. The Rebel Alliance’s most dangerous operatives—now entering the infantry battles played out in your games of Star Wars: Legion." We’ll talk about four key elements of Strike Team Sniper tactics: Deployment, Target Priority, Corner Peeking, and Counter Sniping. Deployment This thing is really cheap now, and it’s also a dedicated Impact unit, which is a rare commodity on the Rebel roster. In a world where you still need to tech against Dark Troopers lest you get run over by them, the FD Cannon fulfills an important role for a reasonable cost. Getting a good forward position – be careful you don’t overdo it. You absolutely do not want to make your commandos the only target for your opponent to shoot at. Only push up if the Commandos are safe in their new position. Heavy Weapon Team. This is the unique keyword for the Strike Team. You must take a heavy weapon, which is either a DH-447 Sniper or Proton Charge saboteurs. This makes a very fragile but potentially efficient (offensively) two man unit. There are some important special rules that deal with casualty removal with a Strike Team, which we will talk about below under the Corner Peeking section. Saboteur Tactics

Alternatively, for just sixteen points, you may bring a Rebel Commando strike team into your forces. This unit starts with a single Rebel Commando, but the Heavy Weapon Team ability forces a Rebel Commando strike team to equip a heavy weapon upgrade card. The miniature added by that card becomes the unit leader, creating a small, two-person team centered around a specific, deadly, heavy weapons miniature. Movement in Star WarsLegion is fast and organic as you send your troopers marching forward. Every unit has a speed which determines the jointed movement tool that you’ll use to move that unit. You simply align the movement tool with the base of the unit leader and move it to the end of the movement tool. Note the recent changes to Key Positions, where one objective goes on the terrain piece closest to the center of the table. This can still favor blue player, since blue chooses table edge, but not nearly to the same degree. If you are running a saboteur list, make sure you are carefully looking at the terrain and assessing which edge will favor you if you draw Key Positions. A-280 Blaster Rifle. Technically the same weapon as Rebel Troopers, but the surge/hit and Sharpshooter 1 make it much more reliable. Here are the wounds by target for various DH-447 related situations. I omitted the armor columns, because… well, they aren’t good. Hopefully you aren’t trying to take out an AT-ST with a sniper rifle. In addition, most advertising networks offer you a way to opt out of targeted advertising. If you would like to find out more information, please visit http://www.aboutads.info/choices/or http://www.youronlinechoices.com. The original Core Set is still a great place to start. It’s an economic way to get a few good starting units, all the cards, dice and tools you need to play the game and even a second army to split with a friend (or keep for yourself if you want to play both sides). If you’re splitting with a friend, it’s not even a bad idea to buy two and double your starting options. This is part two of the Rebel Commandos article series. This article focuses on Proton Charge Saboteurs; the sniper article can be found here: Rebel Commandos – Sniper Din can still be pretty disruptive when he’s directly in your face and in melee (and he’s more likely to be able to get those out of cover shots with the pistol) but at his price point he just isn’t good enough in that role to justify it.
