About this deal

Behind every bottle, there is a team that puts a huge effort into producing our brandy. This song, Ana’s version of the classic David Bowie song Heroes, is dedicated to each and every one of them who makes Cardenal Mendoza a unique and special product. To all of them, thank you! We launched our new, limited-production smoky brandy, Cardenal Mendoza Nebulis, during Golden Week. Two online tastings were held, one in Spanish with importers from Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico Mexico and national distributors; and another in English with importers from the USA, Germany, Israel, Russia, Italy, Switzerland and the UK.

Sánchez Romate Hermanos was founded in 1781 by the Spanish trader Juan Sánchez de la Torre in Jerez de la Frontera. It is one of the few remaining locally owned wineries in Jerez. Hollywood, United States – PeakandSmoke Edwin Cruz & Laura Lindsay Cardenal Mendoza Clásico is an exceptional Brandy de Jerez, aged for an average of 15 years in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry Wine casks. Brandy de Jerez Solera is the youngest, which is aged for a minimum of six months and consequently has a fruitier character. Cardenal Mendoza Clásico proved unlike any brandy I’d had before. It retains some of the pleasing hotness and round, robust character brandies are identified with, but adds extra layers of flavor thanks to the notes of dark, sweet fruits and dry spices added through the aging process. If you’ll forgive me for trotting out a tired cliche, it’s a bit of a “you got peanut butter in my chocolate/you got chocolate in my peanut butter” scenario, only for brandy and sherry instead.

Brandy de Jerez, or “sherry brandy,” is a type of brandy that is made in Jerez, Spain and aged in the solera style in ex-sherry casks. It enjoys Protected Designation of Origin status in the E.U. and is certified by Spain’s Brandy de Jerez Regulatory Council, whose logo appears on every authentic bottling. Around 20 bodegas currently produce Brandy de Jerez according to the council’s guidelines. To celebrate this edition of Cardenal Mendoza Golden Week, Sanchez Romate made a series of three videos , in collaboration with the Jerez-born singer Ana Bohéme. There was also a Cardenal Mendoza-themed VIP party with 150 key influencers and journalists, focusing on the new Cardenal Mendoza design, with a Halloween touch. One of the biggest soleras in Jerez, the scale of this solera guarantees proper ageing for an average of fifteen years and exceptional quality for the Brandy Cardenal Mendoza Clásico.

Madrid, Spain – The Cocktail Room

Cardenal Mendoza Clasico Solera Gran Reserva is a Brandy de Jerez, a brandy made in the Spanish Sherry producing region of Jerez. Brandy de Jerez is aged in a Solera System, a fractional ageing process, more commonly used in Sherry production. Use of the solera ageing process for spirits is quite rare, however it is also used in the production of certain Solera Rums. Finally, what would life be without friends, family and music? We wanted to celebrate being able to see each other again, to embrace, to dance, to have fun together at last, after such a challenging year – Ana sings the joyous song Volare. A celebration also for the musicians, family, work and of course... good brandy! Cheers!

In 1877 the Sánchez Romate family started producing brandy for private consumption. Word of its fine quality spread and the bodega decided to bottle it for commercial sale with the name Cardenal Mendoza.Sanchez Romate was founded by Juan Sánchez de la Torre in 1781 and is one of the last family-owned Sherry houses. Over two hundred years later Sanchez Romate is one of the oldest bodegas in Spain and one of the remaining wineries in the Jerez Designation of Origin that remains under independent family ownership. A brandy was first produced in 1887 and it is the fabulous Cardenal Mendoza Solera Gran Reserva which has become the family’s flagship brand, although their Sherries follow closely behind! Regulated under the strict auspices of the Consejo Regulador – the Brandy de Jerez regulatory body – and the even stricter controls of the bodegas of Sanchez Romate itself, the Cardenal Mendoza brand surpasses these regulations with ease, making it one of the greatest and most sought after brandies from Jerez. Cognac is a city in the Charentes area of western France where distillation began in the early XVII century. The Dutch had for many years bought the local wine either for consumption as wine or for distilling to make gin or liqueurs. It soon became apparent that wine in its distilled form could be shipped more economically, and Cognac became a centre for brandy production. The wine is mainly made from the Ugni Blanc grape and is double distilled in pot stills known as “alembiques Charentais”. It is aged statically in French oak barrels of 350 litres and seasoned with young spirits. Cognac received its Appellation d’Origine Contrôllee (AOC) in 1936. Alquitaras pot stills
