The finish is beautifully balanced, with supple notes of honeycomb, soft wood, and a gentle sweetness. Glenury Royal was closed in 1985 during the 'whisky loch', a crisis caused by the gross over-estimation of demand in the 1970s.

This Limited Edition has been crafted by Master Blender Jim Beveridge and his small team of passionate blenders using eight handpicked whiskies from the four corners of Scotland, including three irreplaceable 'ghost whiskies' and five incredibly rare malt expressions, from the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Blended Scotch Whisky reserves. Inspired by the Highlands and the TV show "Outlander," the whisky boasts notes of vanilla, butterscotch, and oak spice.

Alongside the distinctive autumnal character from Pittyvaich whiskies, the sweet and fruit notes of fresh apple beautifully balanced with the delicate subtle sweetness of honeycomb and soft wood from the “ghost” whiskies of Port Dundas and Carsebridge. Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Pittyvaich was released in 2021 as part of the continuing Ghost and Rare series celebrating the rare and lost distilleries that contribute to the Johnnie Walker brand's globe-bestriding success.

The distillery was destroyed by a fire just a few weeks after opening, but later became one of only three Scottish distilleries to hold a royal title. The Highland distillery was founded in 1825 by Captain Robert Barclay, a member of the British Parliament and the first man to walk one thousand miles in one thousand hours.
