About this deal

This edition of The Motorcycle Diaries, the notes describing a journey made without hesitation, aboard the noisy motorcycle La Poderosa II (which gave out halfway, but only after transmitting to the adventure a joyous impulse we, too, receive), free as the wind, with the sole purpose of getting to know the world, is dedicated to people whose youth is not merely sequential, but wholehearted and spiritual.” The psychological effects of the sun are strange: it had not yet appeared over the horizon and we already felt comforted, just imagining the heat it would bring.” The Motorcycle Diaries is Che Guevara’s diary of his journey to discover the continent of Latin America while still a medical student, setting out in 1952 on a vintage Norton motorcycle together with his friend Alberto Granado, a biochemist. It captures, arguably as much as any book ever written, the exuberance and joy of one person’s youthful belief in the possibilities of humankind tending towards justice, peace and happiness. The Motorcycle Diaries by Ernesto Che Guevara Plot Summary

Of course, people with polarizing political ideologies also tend to dehumanize the acts of Che Guevara, as they also do with any notable political personalities. From a personal pov, I don’t see the point. The first book on politics I ever read was the Communist Manifesto, and that was followed by loads of other books by Marx and Engels. Now if I’m being entirely honest, the reason I read those, one after another wasn’t that I had adapted that particular ideology, but because I loved those people as authors (and also because the local library was strictly communist with even the CPIM flag on the door). It is there, in the final moments, for people whose farthest horizon has always been tomorrow, that one comprehends the profound tragedy circumscribing the life of the proletariat the world over.”Diarios de motocicleta = The motorcycle diaries: a journey around south America, 1995, Ernesto Che Guevara (1928 - 1967) urn:isbn:9996172228 Republisher_date 20131214094127 Republisher_operator [email protected] Scandate 20131209074316 Scanner scribe5.shenzhen.archive.org Scanningcenter shenzhen Worldcat (source edition) Thirty Years After His Death, Che Guevara Still an Icon". NPR Weekend Edition Sunday. 3 October 2004. The Motorcycle Diaries ( Spanish: Diarios de motocicleta) is a 2004 biopic about the journey and written memoir of the 23-year-old Ernesto Guevara, who would several years later become internationally known as the Marxist guerrilla leader and revolutionary leader Che Guevara. The film recounts the 1952 expedition, initially by motorcycle, across South America by Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado. As well as being a road movie, the film is a coming-of-age film; as the adventure, initially centered on youthful hedonism, unfolds, Guevara discovers himself transformed by his observations on the life of the impoverished indigenous peasantry. Through the characters they encounter on their continental trek, Guevara and Granado witness first hand the injustices that the destitute face and are exposed to people and social classes they would have never encountered otherwise. To their surprise, the road presents to them both a genuine and captivating picture of Latin American identity. As a result, the trip also plants the initial seed of radicalization within Guevara, who would later challenge the continent's endemic economic inequalities and political repression. Saying goodbye to his girlfriend Chichina is difficult, but Guevara knows he is meant to wander and see the world. The first travel spots are in Argentina, where they meet friends, eat and drink well, and continue to make the precarious bike work for them. Guevara suffers a bout of flu but recovers.

Ernesto, on the other hand, the young Argentine who went on this journey, is someone else. As Aleida writes in her beautiful preface, I am in love with the boy her father had been, and I envy his spirit which took him to journeys I can only dream of. His narration is full of pathos and sympathy, but sometimes has the coldness of pure scientific inquiry. But then again, his romanticism comes in full force and the prose becomes lyrical, poetic, even slightly excessive. Anyway, these notes read smoothly, and the discordance you might find is forgivable, considering the fact that their writer wasn't exactly a prose stylist. Winter, Jessica (28 September 2004). In the letter he described the conditions under the right-wing government of Conservative Laureano Gómez as the following: "There is more repression of individual freedom here than in any country we've been to, the police patrol the streets carrying rifles and demand your papers every few minutes". He also goes on to describe the atmosphere as "tense" and "suffocating", even hypothesizing that "a revolution may be brewing". Guevara was correct in his prognostication, as a military coup in 1953 would take place, bringing General Gustavo Rojas to power. However, the civil war the country was experiencing never went away; rather, tensions were brewing and were leading to an escalation in various regions in Colombia which led to the Colombian civil war, known as La Violencia. a b Aleida Guevara (9 October 2008). And how can I not slip in a hurrah for revolution, by Michael Parenti? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npkee... When Written: Guevara ostensibly wrote his memoir as a series of impromptu diary entries during his 1952 expedition. However, at least some editing occurred between 1952 and the memoir’s eventual publication in 1993. Some scholars have suggested that Guevara embellished the original narrative later on, or that his daughter or the Cuban government made alterations during editing.

A journey, a number of journeys. Ernesto Guevara in search of adventure, Ernesto Guevara in search of America, Ernesto Guevara in search of Che. On this journey, solitude found solidarity. ‘I’ turned into ‘we.'” —Eduardo Galeano
