About this deal

One wheelchair-bound Doctor postdating their fifteenth incarnation used a sonic screwdriver. ( PROSE: Rose [+] Russell T Davies, adapted from Rose ( Russell T Davies), Target novelisations ( Target Books, 2018). Edition: 2023 Illustrated Edition.) In "Silence in the Library", Professor River Song possesses a slightly bulkier sonic screwdriver, which she claims the Doctor gave to her in his future. The Doctor mentioned that he does not give his screwdriver to anyone. In the following episode, Professor Song mentions that her screwdriver is augmented with a "red setting" and "dampers". It also contains a hidden neural relay linked to River Song, saving her at the episode's conclusion—the purpose for which the future Doctor gave Professor Song the device. A toy version is available. It was revealed in " The Husbands of River Song" that it was the Twelfth Doctor who gave it to River. During his imprisonment by INC on Ha'olam, the Eighth Doctor's sonic screwdriver was confiscated. After his escape, he briefly used a replacement screwdriver resembling a slender metal rod with a crystal at its tip. ( PROSE: Seeing I) In the original script for The Eleventh Hour, the Doctor referred to his screwdriver as "Level 4000" technology.

The Third Doctor's sonic screwdriver is a modified prop from the Thunderbirds film Thunderbirds Are Go, where it appeared as a screwdriver of the non-sonic variety. When Century 21 Productions was closed, the prop, among others, was sold off to the BBC. Its look and function have been (rightly) entirely shrouded in mystery, and now with this Doctor’s essential accessory is officially unveiled, it’s a pure delight for us to confirm that in partnership with the BBC and Wolf Studios, we have been able to produce a really different and special version of this absolutely beautiful sonic. On one occasion he removed the head entirely and replaced it with a small, round mirror, which spun rapidly when he tapped its edge with his finger and hypnotised anyone who looked at it. Accompanied by a yellow light on the collar of his sonic screwdriver and the Doctor singing a Venusian lullaby, it hypnotised the aggressive Aggedor into calmness. In this animated revivial, the sonic screwdriver was redesigned to look more like the version we see in future Second Doctor stories – a thin rod with a little light on the end. Since then, the sonic screwdriver has been a steadfast companion to almost all the Doctors, proving its worth time and time again! What are its shortcomings? The sonic screwdriver was introduced in 1968 in the story Fury from the Deep, and used twice more ( The Dominators and The War Games) during the Second Doctor's tenure. It became a popular tool for the Third Doctor and Fourth Doctor. It was written out of the series in 1982 due to the limitations it caused when writing for the show. It then featured briefly in the 1996 Doctor Who television movie, before making a full return in the 2005 continuation of the series. In the video game Daleks (published for operating systems of the early 1980s), the Doctor can use the sonic screwdriver to teleport and to defend himself against the Daleks. This screwdriver would later be temporarily inherited by the Fourteenth Doctor, who would make use of it at the Dalek Dome, until its destruction at the hands of the Supreme Dalek.
