About this deal

Cooking Greek: A Classic Greek Cookbook for the At-Home Chef by Pemi Kanavos, Tanya Stamoulis, et al. This is a wonderful beginning to a healthier diet involving fresh and healthy flavors in interesting combinations.

It’s no wonder this cookbook was chosen as the year’s best cookbook by the New York Times, the year it was released. This is far more than a Greek cooking book, perhaps it’s more fitting to call this book a novel that provides recipes. Our winner, " The Complete Mediterranean Cookbook," includes 500 recipes, meal planning suggestions, and much more. The " 5-Ingredient Mediterranean Cookbook," however, is both budget-friendly and great for beginners. What to Look for in a Mediterranean Cookbook Number of Recipes Lacey Muinos is a food and wellness writer. She’s followed a plant-based diet for more than five years and loves Mediterranean staples, including hummus, pita bread, olive oil, and legumes. With this cookbook, their goal is to give their readers approachable Mediterrenean recipes for a healthy lifestyle. There is not a specific definition to this diet—it’s more of a general lifestyle and eating pattern based on Mediterranean region countries, including Greece and Italy, that were having significantly fewer deaths due to heart disease, as observed in the 1960s. Since then, studies have shown that this diet is correlated with reduced risk factors for cardiovascular disease, according to Mayo Clinic. This diet emphasizes plants (lots of fruits and veggies); healthy fats ( extra-virgin olive oil); whole grains ( farro, anyone?); weekly portions of fish, poultry, beans, and eggs; moderate dairy; and limited red meat. Red wine is also OK in moderation. The recipes are varied with some simple ones to make and others a little more complex with hard to find ingredients.

Who Is It For? For those looking for nostalgic or childhood recipes with traditional and authentic Greek recipes.

The recipes are bang on; this is the Anna Del Cona or Julia Child of Greek cooking - featuring simple, flavourful cuisine. Baked goods & sweets are mildly challenging but simple enough for a competent home cook to pull off & recipes are engaging enough to ‘teach you’ the basics of excellent Greek cooking (recipes for marzipan, veal stew, & sweet cheese tarts come to mind.) Other meals like vegetable stews and salads are simple enough for beginning cooks. Each recipe is tied to a story that will warm your heart. The book is neatly organized into different sections, making it easy to hop from bread recipes to salads to meat dishes and more. If you plan to cook exclusively from this new book as a part of your new diet, purchasing a book with more recipes will give you more options and variety; this might be particularly helpful if you’re cooking for a larger family with lots of different meal preferences. On the other hand, if you plan to use the book only occasionally or for cooking for a particular family member or guest, you don’t necessarily need quite as many recipes and can opt for a smaller book. Quality is what matters, not quantity. As you read about Greek food in Ikaria, you will see every dish described and every person featured. The recipes speak of Ikarian culture in a really lovely way.
