About this deal

A really lovely book about the importance of bees and the role insects play in our lives. A book that nicely mixes fact with a light story, presented in a beautiful and interactive way. Also a nice way to help children overcome a fear if they are frightened like my daughter is of bees. If you’re having a few drinks, be sure to select quality over quantity. It’s better to have a few drinks and be in control rather than overcrowding the system with too much alcohol and having to face the hangover consequences. 8. Unforgettable Tips for Achieving a Bee-Free Haven King MJ, Buchmann SL, Spangler H. 1996. Activity of asynchronous flight muscle from two bee families during sonication (buzzing). Journal of Experimental Biology 199, 2317–2321. [ PubMed] [ Google Scholar] A group of bugs are alarmed when they realise that all the bees have disappeared from their garden. So, a clever worm, brave caterpillar, determined beetle and amusingly gloomy snail set off in search of their missing friends. They journey through vegetable beds, damp leaf litter, across the pond, and past the garden fence into the woodland beyond, until finally they hear a welcome buzz!

If you notice any bees that seem to be hanging around your beekeeper, try to chase them away if possible, or move the bee-hives further away. Clean up. Keeping your garden neat and free of attractive sources of food helps deter bees. Empty fallen fruit, remove trash and debris, and clean your birdbath or feeders regularly. Drink Plenty of Water – Hydrating before, during, and after a night of drinking helps prevent a hangover. Your body needs water to filter out alcohol toxins so it’s best to drink throughout the night while you are drinking. Create a physical barrier between your bee-hives and your beekeeper. Surrounding your beekeeping setup with a fence made of mesh or wooden boards can help keep your bee-hives away from your beekeeper. DeTar WR, Haugh C, Hamilton J. 1968. Most of the story is told using speech bubbles as the insects discuss how and where they can look for the bees and tension rises throughout the story as they are nowhere to be found (although several insects the same colour as bees are discovered along the way).

Relationship between frequency (Hz) and bee size (intertegular distance, mm) for both floral vibrations (red circles) and wingbeat (blue triangles) for 35 species of bees sampled in tropical and temperate communities in the Americas. Each bee species is represented by a pair of symbols (one circle and one triangle). The lines and grey regions represent a linear model and its associated 95% confidence interval calculated with the function geom_smooth in R (R Development Core Team, 2021), fitted separately for flight and floral buzzes. The Pearson’s correlation coefficient (95% confidence interval) for flower buzzes is ρ=0.126 (–0.216, 0.441) and for wingbeat is ρ= –0.628 (–0.795, –0.374). Data from Burkart et al.
