About this deal

During this time breaking the shoe in I could feel the differences and changes that had been made in the upgrade. Most noticeably, the heel collar. If you’re a lifter that wants versatility and decent stability with your training shoe, then I think the Reebok Nano X1 is worth it for you. This model features Reebok’s Floatride Energy Foam midsole which accommodates moderately loaded lifting, versatile training, and shorter runs fairly well. In fact, it’s insane just how cushioned the Nano X1 Vegan’s are when you consider how good they are for lifting. Some criticism has been levelled at the Nano X1’s by hardcore lifters for not offering the same support as previous generations of the shoe. And while it’s true that I would never attempt a squat PB wearing the Nano X1 Vegan shoes - and you probably wouldn’t want to go higher than around 85% of your 1 rep max in them - I’d argue that you should be wearing specific lifting shoes for that intensity of training anyway. The Nano X1 is 2 ounces lighter than its predecessor, has 7mm of drop (Up from 4), and best of all – has some effective cushion in the heel and midfoot.

This is one area where the X1 stands out – at 12.1 ounces per shoe (US Men’s Size 11) it’s almost 2 ounces lighter than the Nike Metcon 6 (13.9 ounces). The Nano X1 is almost 2 ounces lighter per shoe, as compared to the Metcon 6. Lighter is better. For instance, the Reebok Nano X1 Froning was developed with ‘Fittest Man in the World’ Rich Froning Jr., to create a high-performance CrossFit shoe with fore-foot straps and extra cushioning. Alternatively, if you’re looking for all the performance and comfort of the Nano but with an added touch of style, the Reebok Nano X1 Lux are a perfect blend of sports and leisure that you’ll want to wear even when you’re not working out. I like the flat laces. The tongue is slightly padded, which is a change from previous Nanos that Amanda doesn’t like, but it’s still skinny enough not to get in the way. Additionally, the Reebok Nano X1 features Reebok’s Floatride Energy Foam throughout its midsole while the Reebok Nano X’s midsole is composed of high-density foam. The Nano X1’s outsole also has a full lug pattern, while the Nano X has its signature split outsole construction. Traditionally, Nano’s have leant hugely towards a wide, stable base, heavy lifting shoe. Any quite rightly, if you’re doing a lot of running, nothing beats a specialist running shoe.Overall, those are the biggest and most prevalent construction callouts that relate to performance for the Reebok Nano X1. Reebok Nano X Vs Reebok Nano X1 For those that need or want a tougher Nano X1 – there will be Flexweave Grit option soon – that’s more like the traditional Flexweave you are used to. Here’s the Nano X1 with the Flexweave Grit upper.

Additionally, I like the midsole and outsole in this model and how they blend together. The Floatride Energy Foam midsole is lightweight and the full rubber lug-pattern outsole provides adequate traction while also remaining lightweight.

Reebok Nano X1 Upper Unit

Can we compare the Reebok to any of the other Metcon 6 versions? Here it is side by side with the latest AMP shoe. Both shoes feature a thin removable insole that offers a little bit of mid-foot support. In the Nike Metcon 7, this is a fairly big change compared to the Nike Metcon 5 and 6 which featured a dual-texture midsole for versatility and stability. I’m always a tad dubious about sizing on the Nano’s, as I wear half a smaller size than all of my other running and training shoes. It might not sound much, but these small steps will hopefully add up to bigger sustainable strides from shoe giant Reebok. And boy, do we need them, when you consider the figures that show over 300 million pairs of shoes are thrown away in the UK each year, with the majority going to landfill (trainers are a main culprit here because they are made from multiple man-made materials that are practically impossible to recycle).

Like I said, sometimes the best shoe is one that’s designed purposefully for the activity you’re doing. Amanda says the X1s are fine for running short distances during workouts, but she wouldn’t like to run more than a mile in them on any given day. Wearing the Reebok Nano X1s for Walking and Everyday ActivitiesHeel cup is rounded versus the straight heel cup on the Nano 9 and Nano X; keep this in mind if you prefer the heel design on the 9s and Xs. There are 2 big changes in the sole unit in the Nano X1. Firstly the 7mm heel to toe drop, and secondly, the floatride foam under the forefoot.

The flexibility in the upper is great, especially in the forefoot and overall I’m really impressed with the new knit material. While running shoes have a higher heel drop for more cushioning and support, training shoes like the Nano X1 are built for jumping, side to side movement, and traction. This means they’re a versatile staple that can take you anywhere from weightlifting and high intensity interval training to outdoor bootcamps and short stints on the treadmill. The Nike, of course, can have 4mm or 12 mm – once you put in the hyperlifts. The Nike Metcon 6 comes with a dual-density foam midsole which is removable and Hyperlifts.

The midfoot in the both the Nano X and Metcon 6 are dual density to give a softer forefoot and firmer rearfoot. The aim of this is to give some cushioning on a short run, and add stability under the heel with lifting weights. The Nano X claims to be more ‘runnable’ than ever, and I can vouch for that. The Metcon 6 has also seen significant improvements in performance when running since the previous iterations. Due to the nature of the training demands, there’s little outsole tread, making them less than ideal for running or training outdoors. The Reebok Nano X1 features a breathable mesh that extends throughout the entirety of the shoe sans the heel which has additional synthetic layers for stability and durability. It won’t be my go to training shoe, but I’ll keep it in mind for home workouts, over a session in the gym.
