About this deal

It made me want to cry how hard he was on himself, how he prepared every date with all his care and a single thing going wrong would make him feel like a failure, like it was a signal of him not being good enough for her. i love that each of the books happens in different seasons, like lukastella is winter, beckettevie is spring, and laylacaleb is summer. It gives the story emotional depth without weighing it down, leading to a more fulfilling reading experience. It's the exact same way he's always said my name, but it sounds different here with the salt and the sand.

I absolutely ADORED him: from his careful, sweet, and fully-focused attention with Layla in every single way, his adorable blushes, as well as all the ways he showed her how much she mattered; to his general kindness to everyone around him. I keep staring at them as he slides right up to the bar, next to me, and places both his hands flat on the bartop. Overall it was a pretty meh book and I have to say I am honestly glad that I finally managed to finish it.He wants Layla to give him feedback on his dating skills and style and he’ll try and show her how she should be treated. He is also super hot, but Layla never noticed (even though he was in her bakery for butter croissants and coffee three days a week like clockwork) until he saves her from an especially bad date.

Now plotwise, the plot was what bothered me the most in this book, but I think this has mostly to do with the plots just not being for me.

Overall this book is nice and fun read not having any plots and one of the reasons for rating it low was the plot point was that 3rd act breakup and I don’t like that trope much. All she wants is a partner who gives her butterflies, not someone who ghosts her at dinner and leaves her with the cheque. And since this is a POC hero, it makes me think all sorts of dark thoughts about racism when it doesn’t seem like this sort of book. I did love the relationship better in the first two books because there was a little more angst, especially in book two. Each book has its own swoony feel, but this one felt the strongest to me - so many little swoony breadcrumbs sprinkled along the way, such likable characters, and plenty fan-worthy spice.

Caleb in a way did have a grand gesture in that he never stopped showing up and kept telling her she was worth the wait.I really liked Layla's character and her insecurities about having a relationship and owning her own business.

Her family doesn't support her decision to be a baker and she questions her own judgement, because look at the tools she's dated.I want to sit on the couch with someone in blissful, perfect, comfortable silence-pizza on the coffee table and my feet tucked under their thigh. I won’t get into details - but in my personal opinion, I found it to be very unrealistic and I didn’t like the whole thing… so that was the turning point of when I decided I just didn’t care to keep going. Second book of the series and I’m glad at-least it had dual pov and I think Evelyn , she was everything your typical influencers aren’t and by that i mean , an amazing person who had such beautiful chemistry with Beckett who was so good , so dreamy it was all hearts and bows . Neither one anticipated just how well their arrangement would go… or just how much they’d wish that they were dating for real.
