About this deal

Region: England | ABV: 41.4% | Tasting Notes: Strawberry, Orange blossom, Rose water, Pink peppercorn Hayman's Old Tom Gin:Old Tom gins bridge the gap between sweet genever and the famous London dry gins. Hayman's is one of the best brands of this small class of old-school gin. Next time we visit Louth we’ll definitely be trying out the distillery’s Gin School. Using your own still you’ll be shown how to make your own personalised gin, and take away a 70cl bottle at the end. The pair pride themselves on being a green distillery with sustainability at the core of everything that they do - from the solar panels powering the distillery to technology to ensure they're not using any excess energy or water during the distillation process.

The tour and tasting experience at Louth Distillery lasts about an hour, and it’s really nicely balanced between learning the science and stories, as well getting to know the product itself. The distillery is open for you to attend a distillery experience, including tours, tasting sessions, and gin school. We tried the original along with Valencian Orange, Premium Pink and Navy Strength. It seemed everyone in our tasting group had a different favourite! Mine was the Premium Pink, which had a sweet fruity aroma with a spicy and citrusy twist in the flavour. Nolet's Silver Dry Gin :Soft florals and fruits are the hallmarks of this gin and it shine with the gentle treatment of a pink gin. Set in the quaint market town of Louth in the Lincolnshire Wolds, Louth Distillery now produce their award-winning brand, Pin Gin, along with white label projects. Most excitingly, they also cask Mr Bottomleys' original recipe - which is the only Lincolnshire Single Malt Whisky. Visit Louth Distillery Originally the term “pink gin” was used to describe regular gin with a splash of angostura bitters. Nowadays, you can expect pink gins to be infused with a whole assortment of fruit, herbs and spices, including strawberries, rhubarb, grapefruit and rose petals. What does pink gin taste like? Tanqueray Malacca :It makes a rare appearance on the market, but this sweetened version of the famous London dry is perfect for a pink gin. When you see it, mix it!

After the tour and tasting experience, we stayed at The Traveller’s B&B, a family-run bed and breakfast just a couple of minutes’ walk from the town centre. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, but most importantly, the breakfast was delicious! You can have a full English (with Lincolnshire sausage of course), and there is also a buffet of cereals, fruits, yoghurts and juices to enjoy. Sometimes, though not always. While some pink gins can be overly sweet, a well-balanced pink gin will be more floral-driven and herbal than its cloying counterparts. Seek out well-made expressions from small distillers to dive into the world of delicious, well-made craft gins. The best gin to use is down to personal preference? Or what you already have in the cupboard! In the pictured recipe, we used a supermarket branded London Dry Gin. There they invested in larger equipment to launch an entire range of Pin Gin flavours, including pink, orange and spiced, as well as a new product, Rum Cat.

Afterwards, the spent botanicals and grain are taken to a local farm to be fed to cattle. Anything the cows shouldn’t eat is added to the farm's compost heap to nourish future crops. We do not advise that you drive to this experience, so that you can enjoy all of the spirits on offer! However, if you do, please be aware that we are not able to accept any liability for vehicles left at The Distillery.
