The EcoAir DD1 Simple MK3 Dehumidifier can extract up to 7.5 litres of moisture per day in cold temperatures as low as 1ºc, so it's a very useful option for conservatorys, basements or garages that don't have dedicated heating, as well as unheated rooms in the home during winter months. The Electriq 10l dehumidifier is a solid model, but, unlike the 20L version, we can't recommend it over alternatives such as the Meaco Small Home Dehumidifier. It's easy to use and relatively cheap, but struggles to remove enough water from the air compared to its closest competitors. However, most models have a built-in humidistat regardless of price. Dehumidifiers don’t have to be noisy, and there are some good near-silent options. They will work discreetly in your home without interfering with your sleep or work, so a quiet mode or eco mode is well worth any extra, particularly if it will save you some cash in running costs. With a 10 litre capacity, the Electriq CD10L is clearly designed for smaller homes than the excellent CD20LE. Unfortunately, we don't think it matches the performance of its bigger sibling. Just like the larger model, the 10L has a laundry mode to dry your washing, and can double as an air purifier with the bundled HEPA filter inserted – although we found it a little less effective in our air-purifying tests than most dedicated models. Even so, it does a brilliant job of removing moisture from the air. While it's unlikely to get near 20 litres per day, it pulls large amounts of water from the air - especially at room temperature or higher. It also has a four litre water tank, so you won't need to empty it as often as other models (although this is smaller than the 6 litre Meaco Low Energy 20L). Then there's noise levels to consider, although as most of cheap dehumidifiers use Peltier condensers noise levels are already lower than more powerful compressor dehumidifiers. All dehumidifier's should give their operating volumes (measured in dB) in the specifications. When the dehumidifier is in operation, a green light tells you it's on, this light turns orange when the tank is full and the dehumidifier will automatically shut off when tank capacity is reached. Don’t get too excited about any claims of silent running – we found that, while actively dehumidifying, it puts out around 50dB on all of its three settings, so you won’t want to sit and watch the TV while it’s on. However, it’s a good performer for its size, reducing humidity in a damp-prone living room by 9% in the first hour and by nearly 22% within two hours. The laundry function’s quite effective too, helping dry your washing indoors without adding a layer of condensation to the windows. And at 9kg it’s light enough to take from room to room, making this a great dehumidifier for the average flat or small to medium-sized home.The cheapest and smallest dehumidifiers on the market can often only extract 0.5L of water from the air per day – in many cases even less – but larger and more powerful dehumidifiers can extract up to 25L per day which can make a huge difference to your home's health if you struggle with damp issues and condensation.
