Mouth ulcers are painful sores in the lining of the mouth, which affect some people and are often worse in stressful times. Mouth ulcers are common and should clear up on their own within a week or 2. They're rarely a sign of anything serious, but may be uncomfortable to live with. Aphthous mouth ulcers can be painful and are often a nuisance but are not serious. Occasionally a mouth ulcer can become secondarily infected with germs (bacteria). In this case you may notice increased pain or redness, or you may be feeling unwell with a high temperature (fever). Secondary bacterial infections are not common but may need treatment with antibiotic medicines.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS Herpetiform mouth ulcers occur in about 1 in 10 cases. These are tiny pinhead-sized ulcers, about 1-2 mm across. An overgrowth of yeast called Candida albicans causes this fungal infection inside your mouth. Injury mouth ulcers caused, for example, by minor burns from hot food or drinks, biting the inside of your mouth, or rubbing from a toothbrush, brace, denture, or a rough tooth. These tend to be localised and go away when the source of the problem is rectified.
