About this deal

J.P. Wiser’s ( view at Wine.com) sets the gold standard for thoughtful, sip-worthy Canadian whisky blends. If you’re looking for a truly Canadian expression of high-rye whisky, test out Canadian Club ( view at Reserve Bar) or Lot 40’s Rye offerings ( view at Drizly). FAQs Is the quality of Canadian whisky as good as others? We may, but are not under any obligation, to release new functionalities and tools or other features for the Service every now and then. Any new functionalities, tools and features shall be part of and governed by the Terms from the moment they are launched and/or available. Further, we reserve the right to modify, change, discontinue the Service, add or remove features, update the Service, change its appearance, temporarily and permanently, at any time, in whole or any part thereof. We may sell, license, transfer, assign or in any other way dispose of the Service (including Members) to any third party without any notification to you, e.g. (but without limitation) in connection with any reorganization, restructuring, merger or sale, or other transfer of assets. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect. Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. We shall first try to settle any dispute over a dram of whisky. Disputes that cannot be settled over multiple drams of whisky shall be solely submitted to the court of Amsterdam, The Netherlands unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise.

This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services. Testing a range of whiskies from England, America, Canada, India and more, The Good Housekeeping Institute’s WSET-certified experts tasted 34 drams, from super-smooth and easy-drinking to full-bodied and spicy. Yes! The country is the perfect environment for growing whisky grains, and Canadian whiskies frequently earn top billing at international whisky competitions. That said, most of the best bottlings (think Gibson’s 18-year-old and craft distillery single malts) aren’t distributed outside of the country—making a strong case for a Canadian whisky tour. I really, really hope that the new 10 year-old rum finished version of this is an improvement, but I’m now gun-shy about putting down actual money to try it.If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. Whether you’re just curious or looking to expand your whisky repertoire outside of Scotland, there’s a huge benefit to looking to the rest of the world for your next dram. Each country has its own climate, benefits from using locally grown ingredients and produces with a fresh perspective, resulting in some very exciting discoveries.

Newly acquired from Corby Distilleries — a growing Canadian whisky producer whose products continue to be difficult to find in the U.S. — by Pernod Ricard, Pike Creek is the brainchild of one Don Livermore, who has a Ph.D. in — wait for it — wood science. In fact, Master of Malt is hailing 2023 as the year of English whisky, with sales up 168% since 2020, and a growing number of awards won. Matured for an unspecified time in Ontario, Canada, the whisky is bottled at 80 proof. And now it is finally going to be available in the U.S. No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service.

Finish: Medium-long, unfortunately. Warming, with a little bit of caramel and oak mixed with the unrelenting vodka notes. Finishes with a bit of port wine, which finally tastes slightly like something real. This is, however, marred by the sudden appearance of charcoal bitterness, which is all that remains when the finish fades. Pike Creek pours a deep, reddish amber in the glass. On the nose, there’s lots of ripe dark fruit and oak. Drink up for tastes of raisins, toffee, pepper and spicy ginger. There’s a big, tannic mouthfeel, and it finishes long, with more spices, oak, cooling mint and mild citrus peels. Overall: I’m not sure I’ve ever had such an irredeemably awful glass of whisky. The liquid provides ample warning of what’s to come with its repugnant aroma, and those that fail to heed the signs will be greeted by an increasingly wretched experience, right down to the unmercifully long finish. Maybe it would have been more bearable if the “Elements” that “Crafted” it had been allowed another 3 years to work. If you happen to see some of these bottles still lying around on sale, I can’t say this often or loudly enough: Do Not Buy This Whisky.

(“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). There’s a lot going on here, and overall, a lot to like. We’re glad Canada decided to share this one with us.

Tasting Notes

The Service has been prepared by us solely for information purposes to Members and the Service is based on information we consider reliable and we obtain the contents of the Service from a number of different third party sources (including Contributions), but we do not endorse, support, represent, warrant or guarantee the completeness, truthfulness, accuracy, or reliability of the Services and any information therein. Temperatures plunge during the frigid Canadian winters, and soar during the hot summers — Windsor has one of the greatest annual temperature configurables of any whisky region in the world. As a result of the dramatic changes in temperature, the wood barrels are forced to contract and expand, ultimately maximizing interaction with the whisky. "This interaction with the barrels adds character, complexity, and concentrated flavors to the whisky, resulting in a one-of-a-kind product distinctive to Pike Creek," says Hartunian. Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. Regardless of whether the Service offers the functionality to contribute, you are solely responsible and liable for any content and information that you create, upload, post, publish, link to, duplicate, transmit, record, display or otherwise make available on the Service or to other Members, such as chat messages, text messages, videos, audio, audio recordings, music, pictures, photographs, text and any other information or materials, whether publicly posted or privately transmitted (“Contributions”). Each and every Member must be of legal drinking age in its country of residence to be allowed to use the Service. If no such law exists in a Member’s country of residence, the Member has to be over 21 years old to use the Service. We have the right to ask you to provide proof of your age and/or to provide further identification to prevent underage usage and/or for any other legal or legitimate purpose. By using the Service, and by creating an account you represent, warrant and confirm that you are of legal age.
