King Edward VIII abdicated from the British crown in December after becoming King in January 1936. He chose to marry divorcee Wallis Simpson instead. King George VI was then crowned king. Therefore coins featuring King Edward VIII were therefore only available for a short time – less than a year. Subsequently, some of these coins are extremely sought after and sometimes valuable.
