About this deal

Dr Gottfried Biegelmeier (1924-2007) was an Austrian Physicist who filed a patent for the first residual current circuit-breaker (RCCB) in 1957.

It covers key guidance for all involved with specifying, designing, installing or verifying electrical installations and has been fully updated to BS 7671:2018+A2:2022. An EICR is an electrical installation condition report, on the condition of an electrical installation. If the inspector has noted any C1 or C2 conditions, it should result in an unsatisfactory outcome of the report.

It also contains essential guidance for those studying for inspection and testing qualifications and has been fully updated to BS 7671:2018:2022. mm 2 twin and earth cable shows very little change in instrument readings at each test point around the ring, even for the longest circuit lengths meeting voltage drop criteria.

GOTTFRIED BIEGELMEIER, an oral history conducted in 1996 by David Morton, IEEE History Center, Piscataway, NJ, USA. It could be that the inspection and testing does not cover products such as fixed equipment connected to the installation, it is important this is made clear on the report. A new example checklist of items requiring inspection during initial verification has been added to Appendix 6 but is not required to be provided with the certificate. There is a large element of "measure with a micrometer, mark in chalk, cut with an axe" about the decision about what is an acceptable Zs level for a given breaker anyway, in the sense it is a very accurate calculation of something that does not happen - for example if faults actually were zero resistance, they would not actually dissipate any energy and would not get hot - as I'm sure you realise looking at any burnt end will confirm this is not the case ?When the instrument setting selected is for an AC Type RCD, the test current applied is a 50 Hz alternating current. But that may vary with batch and the age of the breaker, as the moving parts oxidise and get a bit stiffer. I suggest you go and measure Zs on a real system with a real meter early in the morning, then go out for lunch and polish the meter probes and re-test with the same meter at the same point in the afternoon. If you think you may have a faulty RCD, firstly ensure there are no factors within the installation that are influencing the results.
