About this deal

With its gimbal suspension construction, the tonearm bearing section uses a cut-processed housing that employs high-precision bearings, as in the SL-1200G.

Technics improved the motor and shock resistance and changed the rotary pitch control to a slider style. The Technics SL-1210 turntable is virtually identical to the SL-1200, but features voltage selection and is usually finished in black instead of silver. For the development of this model, all that modern-day DJs need and want was reviewed from the ground up.

There might be better sounding tables for a lot more money but the Technics 1210 is an incredibly well-designed and robust turntable that is packed with all the right features. Current models [ edit ] Grand Class SL-1200 Series (2016-2020) [ edit ] A Technics SL-1200G turntable with the platter removed reveals the top of the newly designed coreless direct drive motor assembly. Like the MK3D, it has a pitch reset button, but differs in that it also has a self-locking detent at the zero position of pitch adjustment. Due to the increasing popularity of vinyl by DJs, a petition has been underway (and a petition page on Facebook) [29] for the re-launch of the Technics SL1200/SL1210 series turntables.

Unlike belt drive and other systems, direct drive systems rotate the motor at low speed and directly drive the platter, thus providing numerous advantages, such as the almost complete absence of degradation in S/N ratio due to motor vibration and deceleration mechanisms, as well as high reliability over a long period time because of not requiring parts replacement. In 1970, Technics commercialized the world's first direct-drive turntable, and the system took the world by storm. In simple terms, more expensive turntables tend to perform better thanks to higher quality materials, more precise build and better components.

Announced in January 2019 CES, the new model inherits the traditional design of the same series in all black and maintains the same operating ease, reliability and durability, while newly adding a coreless direct drive motor and other sound-enhancing technologies.Beside two SP-10mk2 and a SL-110 I still own my first 1200mk2 from the mid 80s as well as a 1210 Mk5 from 2003. From the Mk2 version onwards, the 1210 was born, with the change in number indicating that the deck had a different finish when it went on sale in the US and Europe (black as opposed to silver).

The discontinuation of the iconic SL-1200/1210 caused widespread anxiety among DJs, fearing that this marked the end of what had been the industry standard DJ turntable since the 1970s. It achieves clear, detailed sound, and high-durability input (2,500 mW) with no distortion even at high volumes. At the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show, Panasonic confirmed future production of a new turntable respectively the SL-1200 Mk7 in matte black, adding new features, fixing known issues with previous models, and all new lighter construction of aluminum and fiber glass. Based on the RP-DJ1200, which remained as a long-selling model in the market for more than 20 years, the EAH-DJ1200 sports a contemporary black color scheme for an updated appearance. Thankfully its absence proved short-lived, with Technics’s parent company Panasonic retooling, redesigning and bringing back the SL range including the DJ-focused MK7 model.
