Sir Michael Shersby, MP for Uxbridge from 1972 to 1997, is buried in the churchyard along with his widow Lady Barbara. In 2018, we performed the world first minimally invasive mitral valve, aortic valve and CABG – all in the same operation.

The CABG procedure can be performed by either using a cardiopulmonary bypass machine or on a beating heart. Patients recovering faster with fewer complications mean healthier people, being able to live active lives for longer.Kim Banner, another of We Love Coffee’s customers, lives just outside the zone and says she is currently playing a cat-and-mouse game with cameras. She told Local Democracy Reporting services there is currently a vandalised ULEZ camera near where she lives but wouldn’t give the location because she ‘doesn’t want to flag it’ in case it is repaired. The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), a number of directors of Watford Football Club, and the London Borough of Hillingdon worked together to seek to bring about a significant improvement in educational and health standards.

St Mary's Parish Church (off Church Hill) is Harefield's oldest building and an important focal point for the Harefield community. A priest is first mentioned in the manor of Harefield in the Domesday Book (1086). In the late 12th century the advowson was given to the Knights Hospitallers, although the Newdigate family later became patrons of the church. The church building has some medieval features, but was restored and altered in 1768, and again in 1841. [7] In 1929 Harefield became part of the Municipal Borough of Uxbridge, then in 1965 the London Borough of Hillingdon. Mr Gupta, who has been driving from his home in Langley to Harefield for four years, said: "I sold my car and I had to buy a new one. I didn’t want to. Sir Magdi Yacoub, consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at Harefield Hospital (1969–2002), carried out the first live lobe lung transplant, and went on to perform more transplants than any other surgeon in the world. By the end of the 1980s Harefield Hospital was the leading transplant centre. Magdi Yacoub was involved in the development of heart and heart-lung transplants. I was the first surgeon in the UK to routinely use endoscopic vein harvest (EVH), introducing it to Harefield just over ten years ago. This enables the vein to be removed using a smallGenerally, in terms of considering patients for minimally invasive surgery, I don’t just think of it in terms of age, but of overall fitness, suitability for the procedure and, of course, people’s wishes. But you don’t have to be young – I operate on patients in their 80s and 90s – the results are usually very good. Beating heart surgery A significant advantage of these new vanguard of minimally invasive treatments, many of which use heart valves made from animal tissue rather than the conventional mechanical valves, is patients do not need to take blood thinning drugs for the rest of their lives. It’s made from tissue from cow pericardium (the heart lining) and it uses new anti-calcification technology which prevents the valve becoming stiff and damaged, meaning it lasts a lot longer.

Harefield House, a Grade II listed building, High Street, Harefield, was built by Sir Roger Newdigate in about 1750. From about 1765 to 1809 it was occupied by J. M. Bruhl. During World War I it served as No. 1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital. In 1937 it was acquired by the Ministry of Defence and was occupied by the Aeronautical Inspection Directorate. After 1982 the building was restored and converted to office use. In 2015 the building was used as the filming location for the interior of the island mansion in the TV adaptation of Agatha Christie's mystery novel And Then There Were None. [8] The resident added she fears what will come next after ULEZ. She said: “It's never going to stop here. We all know it's going to be pay-per-mile next. Look at how much money they spent putting all those cameras up, you think [ Transport for London ] put all of those up for a few non-compliant cars? Of course not." By 1813 limekilns and copper mills lay along the northern part of the canal, and there were coal wharves north of Moorhall. The industrial area continued to expand throughout the century, but away from the canal Harefield remained one of the few places in Middlesex where the ancient pattern of an agricultural village survived into the second half of the 19th century, mainly because of the absence of a main road or railway.

Although minimally invasive procedures may not have a huge reduction on how long patients spend recovering in hospital following their surgery, the patients and the cardiologists caring for them certainly notice the difference afterwards. Alexander Fleming (1881–1955), biologist and Nobel Prize winner for the discovery of penicillin, was Regional Pathologist at Harefield Hospital, 1939; this is recorded on a blue plaque at the main entrance door to the hospital
