Warhammer 4th Edition introduced the notion of card based Magic Items, as compared to the tables used in 1st-3rd Edition rules. Initially they appeared in the Warhammer and Battle Magic boxed sets. Later army books introduced more, but only contained paper cut-outs, rather than cards. The Arcane Magic boxed set was brought out to remedy this, with card versions of all the Army Book items up to that date. It also contained a booklet detailing all possible Magic Items, Spells, Runes and Chaos Rewards at that point in time. The easiest method I know is to use decals over the top of a simple bit of paper. You paint a little free hand on it, then you end up with an overall simple and nice picture. A lot of decals now have script in them, and if you are an Imperial player, you can add purity seals to the banner.
