Found in North Yorkshire, England, RHS Garden Harlow Carr features a beautiful collection of gardens, woodlands, and water features. It is known for its extensive heather collection, the Scented Garden, and the Queen Mother's Lake. The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) was founded in 1804 and is the UK’s largest gardening charity. We are transforming ourselves into a nation of gardeners, and pleasant it is to see those in possession of many broad acres seeking horticulture as a pastime…. Horticulture, or gardening, call this pursuit what you will, was not always a national pastime. Not many years ago everything was left to the gardener, and little interest was shown in the woodland and pleasure ground by those who possessed them; but all this is rapidly changing as the love of plants grows among us, shedding its peaceful influence over the town and country. This pastime has not permeated the national life without its pioneers, and one of these is Mr Wilson of Heatherbank and the cottage garden of Oakwood, Wisley, where for twenty years past experiments have been made with hardy flowers, and success or failure recorded faithfully for the benefit of those who know not the pitfalls of the beginner. Beloved by bird watchers, RHS Hyde Hall, located between Southend-on-Sea and Chelmsford in Essex, is a charming series of gardens. Occupying a hilltop with wide views across the landscape, you can enjoy picnics on Clover Hill or take in the sights on a stroll around the reservoir with its bird hides. Spread 5m (16ft) Two carers are admitted free of charge accompanying visitors whose disability necessitates their support. A. palmatum (Palmatum Group) 'Asahi-zuru': (v) bright green bark streaked and blotched pink. Height and spread 5m (16ft)P. ‘Ukon’ AGM: semi-double pale yellowish, tinged green flowers are pink flushed mid-spring, red-brown and purple autumn tints. Height and spread 7-8m (23-26ft) Wisley has since been extended (originally ‘c 7.5ha of garden ground and water, c 7.5ha of grassland, and c 9ha of arable’, it is now 97ha, or 240 acres), and developed ‘for the benefit of its members and visitors’. A key structure at Wisley is the old Laboratory building ( Grade II), built in 1914-16 in ‘Surrey Vernacular style’ to accommodate a lecture theatre for the School of Horticulture (founded in 1907). It later housed the RHS’s administrative and scientific departments, but, more recently, has been opened to the public, with the move of the science functions to ‘ RHS Hilltop’ (still at Wisley), ‘the UK’s first dedicated horticultural scientific centre of excellence’. Height and spread 4m (13ft) At RHS Rosemoor, visitors will be welcomed by a vibrant display of tulips in containers and beds, with over 13,300 bulbs having been planted by the garden team this winter to create a cheerful spring spectacle. Highlights include the dazzling mass planting of Tulipa'Bourbon Street', T.'Golden Dynasty', T. 'Request' and T. 'Passionale' on the ramp beds at the entrance, and containers throughout the gardens.
