Rosalie Callway, Lorraine Farrelly, Flora Samuel, ‘The value of design’, Architects Council of Europe, 2019 https://www.ace-cae.eu/uploads/tx_jidocumentsview/Value_of_Design.pdf Over 5000 of the items held are catalogued, including all manuscripts, and almost all books, offprints, stage files, audio-visual media, and other printed materials. An Architect trained at Cambridge and Princeton Flora has strong opinions on the future of architectural education and the changing role of architects. She taught for 10 years at Cardiff before leading the March at the University of Bath. She was then the first woman Head of the University of Sheffield School of Architecture. She left Sheffield for Reading University to help set up a new School of Architecture to deliver an education for uncertainty. As part of Drag Queen Story Hour UK’s programming, Samuel and other drag performers read to children and their families in libraries, bookstores and schools to promote diversity, inclusivity and kindness.

The built environment can affect our quality of life in many ways,” says Flora. “We’ve seen this during the pandemic. The Quality of Life Framework is a way of capturing them. There are obvious things like health, how much exercise we take, our exposure to nature, the way we connect with one another and less obvious things like the way the built environment can encourage us to connect with our sense of purpose. Importantly having a sense of power over our environment is good for wellbeing.” Samuel ends after the death of Samuel, and then a few chapters later the death of Saul and his son Jonathan in battle against the Philistines. The reign of David is discussed in 2 Samuel. It is a book of epic battle and personal struggle, of friendship and violent hatred, as well as of vice and virtue. Both books feature flawed and faithful individuals who can serve as relatable heroes, as well as warnings for pursuing goals that differ from God’s will. Mathys, H. P., 1 and 2 Chronicles in Barton, J. and Muddiman, J. (2001), The Oxford Bible Commentary, p. 283 David was the smallest and youngest of his brothers, unimpressive to the world around him. God chose David to be the King of Israel, to work through him, and ultimately to continue the line of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that would lead to the birth of Jesus Christ.

Once again Saul tries to kill David with his spear, and so David decides to escape, lowered out of a window by Michal, who then takes an idol, covers it in clothes and places goat's hair on its head to cover David's escape. David visits Samuel. When Saul finds this out, he sends men to capture David, but when they see Samuel they begin prophesying, as does Saul when he tries to capture David himself.

You aren’t taking your child in to see a paedophile, are you? What a very strange thing to do,” he remarked as a family walked inside. The government is currently rethinking the future of planning and it is important that better consultation with communities is part of it. We are looking to develop a digital and face to face format for planning consultation that is simple and effective, keeps people informed and gives them power.” Once when they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh, Hannah stood up. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his chair by the doorpost of the Lord’s house. ( R) 10 In her deep anguish ( S) Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. 11 And she made a vow, ( T) saying, “ Lord Almighty ( U), if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember ( V) me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, ( W) and no razor ( X) will ever be used on his head.”Le Corbusier, Teilhard de Chardin and the Planetisation of Mankind’ Journal of Architecture, 4, 1999, pp.149-165. Samuel was many things during his lifetime. His father, Elkanah, had two wives, but only one had any children. Elkanah loved Hannah, who was barren. She begged the Lord in prayer for a child, promising the child to God, and shortly after Samuel was born. He was the oldest of six children born to Elkanah and Hannah. Dietrich, Walter (2020). Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none. Four of the Dead Sea Scrolls feature parts of the books of Samuel: 1QSam, found in Qumran Cave 1, contains parts of 2 Samuel; and 4QSam a, 4QSam b and 4QSam c, all found in Qumran Cave 4. Collectively they are known as The Samuel Scroll and date from the 2nd and 1st centuries BCE. [33] [34] Samuel travels to Bethlehem to visit a man named Jesse, with God promising Samuel can anoint one of his sons as king. However, while inspecting Jesse's sons, God tells Samuel that none of them are to be king. God tells Samuel to anoint David, the youngest brother, as king. Saul becomes ill and David comes to play the harp to him. Saul takes a liking to David and David enters Saul's court as his armor-bearer and harpist.

Much of my work centres on Samuel Pepys (1633-1703), who is most famous for the diary he kept during the 1660s. My monograph, Samuel Pepys and his Books (OUP, 2015), examined reading practices, collecting, and the exchange of information in the later seventeenth century. I have also edited a new selection of Samuel Pepys’s Diary for Everyman, based on the text of the diary edited by Robert Latham and William Matthews. This is the first annotated selection of the diary and the first edition of any kind to translate Pepys's polyglot (a.k.a. the rude bits). Flora Samuel, ‘Supporting Research in Practice’, Journal of Architecture, January 2017, 22, 1, p. 1 http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/13602365.2017.1280288 Halpern, Baruch (2001). David's Secret Demons: Messiah, Murderer, Traitor, King. Eerdmans. ISBN 9780802827975. A man named Elkanah, an Ephraimite from the city of Ramathaim-Zophim, has two wives, Peninnah and Hannah, the latter of whom is his favourite wife, and a rivalry between the two develops based on the fact that Peninnah has children and Hannah does not. The childless Hannah vows to Yahweh lord of hosts that, if she has a son, he will be dedicated to God. Eli, the priest of Shiloh, where the Ark of the Covenant is located, thinks she is drunk, but when he realises she is praying, he blesses her. A child named Samuel is born, and Samuel is dedicated to the Lord as a Nazirite—the only one besides Samson to be identified in the Bible. Hannah sings a song of praise upon the fulfilment of her vow. As the government rethinks the future of planning, Reading’s Professor Flora Samuel is leading a major research project to find the best ways to consult the public on planning decisions so that everyone’s voice gets a chance to be heard. Barron, Robert (28 April 2015). 2 Samuel. Brazos Theological Commentary on the Bible. Baker Publishing Group. ISBN 978-1-4412-2196-4. This doesn't even deserve 1 star. I went into the Reading branch at 4.30pm today and the assistant was behind the counter and clearly could not be bothered to serve me. I stood for few minutes and had to ask for help. She was reluctant. I asked about a pair of hoop earrings in the sale I had seen online to have a look and she was obstructive by saying the gold earrings would not be reduced that much. I then had to show her on my phone and she shrugged dismissively saying they are probably not in-store and signposted me online. She didn't even explore any similar products to have a look and was argumentative when I asked. She clearly had no knowledge of the products by saying this without even looking and was quite insistent in being put out to help. I had gone to the store to see the products to get a better idea than what I could see online. I had been online and I was better off being treated with more respect by the chatbot! You ought to replace her with a virtual assistant as she is costing you customers and the chatbot treats customers equally with dignity and respect. She needs intensive training on customer service, manners and product knowledge. Auld, Graeme (2003). "1 & 2 Samuel". In James D. G. Dunn and John William Rogerson (ed.).
